Game modes that would fit into existing maps

Post » Mon Sep 14, 2009 4:04 am

I was thinking a good way to add replay value to Brink would be to add an option when playing online to allow players to vote on which map they would like to play and which game mode they would like to play (ex. Story, CTF or King of the hill) So I'm curious what everyone thinks would be some good game modes to add that would not take away too much from the type of game Brink is. I know TDM would take away from Brink but during a cival war on an island there would be bound to be times when both sides get into an all-out brawl, so it still might fit as a game mode.

IMO, every option up there except Search and Destroy would work well. VIP is already in the game, except the VIP is a NPC, so that wouldn't be too hard to implement.

KotH and CtF would fit quite nicely into the game, since CtF is basically in already and KotH would fit the game's style great.

Neutral Bomb might be a dumb choice, since Soldiers can do that as well, but meh. I think Neutral bomb is pretty fun. Search and Destroy is only a CoD game type and is a [censored] one at that, so [censored] that game type.

I think any game mode could fit into Brink style game play.

Even TDM could work! Yes this could bring out the type of gamers that Brink is attempting to eliminate. But it could also create a TDM that actually puts the Team in TDM. you could change the win from point only to holding all spawn points. people could spawn on the terminals and when one team captures all the terminals the other team is dead.

I think we all need to stop the in fighting about what Brink fits into and what it does not.

Brink is a first person shooter like no other.

The more Splash damage puts into this game the better chance we have of getting a larger community that lasts much longer.

Just saying.

I would love to see more modes to play and a better way to play online.

No bots would be nice too.

I saw a very good idea in another thread about keeping the same game modes, He/she suggested that the objectives should stay the same but randomly change the locations in new matches. This, imo will keep the game fresh and present new tactics everytime. As of right now, it's only a matter of time before everyone adopts the same winning strategy for each go around. The only other CLASSIC mode I would like is Conquest mode. holding down key location for a certain amount of time and/or ticketed deaths is more team based objective then most of the options in the poll. TDM/DM will probably get boring once everyone finds their favorite camping grounds. I rather people helping their teammates complete missions and staying active...waiting for a impatient gamer to wonder by your cross hairs can easily hamper the fun factor.

I totally agree about the static objectives.
In a game like say Battlefield BC2 the objectives are in the same spots but the large open maps and the various destructible structures make it so battles can happen and be sustained in almost any locale and force you to think on your feet and change up tactics as a result.
Given the nature of Brinks maps and the indoor/corridor style of them I think random objective locations are almost necessary to keep players from simply repeating the same tactics over and over and thereby keeping the game somewhat fresh every time.

In regard to new game modes a TDM would be nice. Since any map has several objectives similar to king of the hill or capture the flag or whatever they could also remove all but 1 objective and make that the focus of the match. Maybe they could tweak the match rules for such matches to make them different from the standard ones.
I think all the ingredients are there but the soup could use a bit more stirring.

i think any new modes would be great. The only problem is that all of the current modes consist of one attacking team that has ever changing objectives, and a defending team that is just defending. The defending team can't do anything to speed up their victory, i think there should be some way to speed up the timer or even push the offensive team back a little objective wise.

All of these options would encourage camping.

No more than the camping that occurs when you are trying to prevent the enemy from destroying a gate, or escorting a hostage, or any of the other defense objectives.
