Game NOT TESTED in WINDOWS 7 x64bit

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 4:17 am

I received an answer to an issue with Crysis 2 multiplayer from EA support. They say that Crysis 2 was not tested in Windows 7 x64bit!!!
WTH and WTF! What did Crytek tested it on? Windows 95? :))
You announce a DirectX 11 game, that is supported only in Windows Vista and Windows 7, a game that we all expected to be the next Crysis Armaggedon for our systems and videocards, a game for witch many of us upgraded their PCs (including me) (Windows 7 x64bit is the logical and first choice for an upgraded system; for 4GB RAM or more you need x64bit OS), and you do not test the game on the expected OS-es?
I can see very clear now that Einstein was right:

"Two things are infinite: the universe and stupidity".

There are no issues in Crysis 2 that are exclusive to Windows 7.
Your argument is invalid.
Thank you.

I've had no problems with Win 7 x64. Something is just wrong between Crysis 2 and your system but definitely not the OS.

I'm also using W7 64bit. No technical issue so far.
But that there is no 64bit-mode for the game shows you already, that it wasn't made for 64bit, and so it's logical that they don't even tested it on 64bit....

It works for me very well; I just pointed what the EA told me: that maybe the Win 7 x64bit is causing the connection problem and that I must run it in Compatibility mode; I don't say that. But when you release a game in 2011, you expect to be played on x64bit systems, don't you! So test the damn thing on it, even if it's relevant or not.
Anyways, it seems that everything is released now in beta versions. Even when they say Final version. Software not tested, full of bugs, sites with problems etc. gamesas.com is beta since 2010 (?), Yahoo mail is beta since a few years, Crysis 2 is in beta testing since the demo, and so on...
I am a fan of Crysis universe but I'm tired of glitches and useless support from EA and Crytek.
I discovered myself how to make the LE code and DLC store to work, after 2 month of useless info from the support EA team and no info from Crytek. (you can check my other posts).

I've been using Windows 7, 64bit, since Cry 2 Beta. I haven't seen any problems. You might be pursuing a moot point.

Crysis 2 is a great game; granted that the public's impatience for perfection was not met. But in the scope of First Person Shooters, Crysis 2 is presently untouchable.

EA, on the other hand, taught us alot about internal executive strategies.

+1!

Out of all of the games I play, Crysis 2 is the first that actually doesn't crash on a regular basis. Actually, I have only had it crash twice since I got it. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit.

It doesn't matter whether it turns out to work ok. The OP even says:

I think his point is that you should always test software on every OS out there. Just because it works on one system doesn't mean it will work on any others; you don't want to get it to market, and then discover that with a particular OS the game will crash constantly. He's asking: why was the game not tested on this OS?

(before you claim that not many people use Win7 x64, check Steam's survey data. Win7 x64 is the most popular OS with 40% of users; XP is second with 21%.)

Hmm, why u all have Ultimate? I mean it's a lot more expensive and I can't really see much improvement for a normal home user o.O

I can see very clear now that Einstein was right:

"Two things are infinite: the universe and stupidity".

I just complete the phrase: "Only two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; but I'm not sure about the universe"

Whether or not it WORKS on Windows7 64 is irrelevant to the original post. The fact remains that it was not tested on that OS which means assumptions were made. THAT IS SLOPPY Product Development. It's those same assumptions that brought us all those other wonderful bugs we're dealing with now.

"It's working fine on our test systems. It will work fine when it hits the shelves."

Also, you all should recognize that C2 is running in 32 bit compatibility. So, no; it is not running in 64 bit (few programs are for that matter). Crytek assumed that W7 would deal with it. Fortunately, it has. ... too bad all the other problems came with it.

(LOL @ CryborgT3 ! XD )

Because 'ultimate' and 'professional' allow us to utilize networking software built into the OS.

I have Windows 7 64bit and never had a issue til few days ago, says game stopped working. Which is odd. I think it MIGHT have something to do with the dlc? Did you have the dlc maps too?

The fact that ZERO 64bit games exist is not news to us.
All games are still even today and 5 years from now only going to be 32 bit.
As long as 32 bit is supported we will see only 32 bit games in a slew of 64 bit computers.
Matter of fact I will bet we will be using 128 bit computers before we see any 64 bit games.
