In game obituaries; exploding melon?

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 7:36 am

Hello! I'm a little confused by one of the in game obituary symbols. It looks like a melon or a basketball with a little explosion on the top. I've identified the headshot symbol, melee, knife, cortex bomb, but the exploding-melon symbol escapes me. Can anyone shed some light on what it actually is?

No, got those. It appears after the weapon used to make the kill icon, just to the right, like Headshots.

It's the Operatives Cortex-Bomb.

I'm sorry, it is not. The Cortex-bomb has it's own (very small) icon of it's own.

For clarification, the symbol I am trying to identify appears on the same line, after the weapon used to make the kill, just like the Headshot symbol does. It seems to appear at random times, I've not been able to figure out the circumstance that creates it (hence, I don't know what it is!).

So the obituary would look like:
Mandrake (Rhett) [exploding melon] Victim's Name

It's the nade launcher... You can attach a nade-launcher to your weapon. It's usually AR's. It launches your grenade instead of throwing it and explodes upon impact.

It's not. The top one is a cortex bomb and the bottom is the melon in this screenshot:

I already posted a thread asking about this in the gameplay forums and no one seems to know what it is:

Sgt deacon,

Exactly what I was trying to describe. At first I thought it was meant to represent taking down someone on a primary objective, but it does not seem to be so.

The melon is.. just an exploding melon. I don't get it. I don't know what causes it. All guns can create it.

Ive been wondering about this as well. I'm gonna guess that the exploding melon thing means that said weapon was buffed maybe?

Good idea, but were that the case I think we'd see it a lot more. Perhaps it means you were assisted? Hmmm.

There is a different symbol for headshots. Please take the time to see sgt deacon's screenshot earlier in the thread:

Yep, it looked like that.

I've also seen this one symbol showing this guy tripping and below him is an explosion.

I'm not sure what caused it, but I think it was the fact that I downed a guy standing on a mine (causing him to fall backwards) and downing the teammate next to him.

The guy "tripping" is actually death by falling, happens when you get pushed off a ledge and don't C before hitting the ground.

The Exploding "Melon" as you call it, seems to be a "Nut Shot" similar to that in Combat arms.

I say this Mainly because I generally get it with an Auto weapon when sliding between someones legs and sprayin n' prayin.

Haha ! I always joked about it being a nut shot since I couldn't figure out what it was. Makes sense though.

It's not melee and not nade launcher because I've seen it before when I kill someone. It's not a headshot either. Nutshot I guess would be the most logical guess here.

Nut shot would make sense. The grenade launcher has a standard grenade symbol for it's kill. And we all know what the head shot icon looks like.

Looks like I'll be spraying more peoples groins now just to see.
