Hi,

I am getting an odd issue with new vegas. I am running the game at ultra settings at 1080p, which is what the game recommended as auto settings. When I am indoors the game runs perfectly at 60 fps. When outdoors the game still gets a solid 30 fps on average but it physically slows way down. All of my movements and the movements of other characters are extremely slow. Also to bring up the pip boy or a weapon takes a long time. The framerate is just fine through all this and the game does not stutter at all. I am very confused to what is going on. Just as a test I also dropped the resolution way down to 1360x768 and I am still getting the extreme slowdown outdoors. Does anyone know why this is? I am wondering if it could be my CPU limiting this. I have an old E4300 overclocked to 2.7ghz and so far it has served me just fine but I am wondering if now it is finally faltering. I also put up my dxdiag at the end of this post.

few questions for you.

1. what video settings do you have your game at? AA on etc?

2. what ram do you have? ddr2? 1066 speed etc?

3. is it slow at night out side or day or both? I noticed a slow down during the night on fo3 and fonv.

4. do you have the newest gfx, chipset and other system drivers?

5. do you use the dll fix?

I had the video settings at ultra originally because that what the game recommended. Resolution was 1900x1080. AA was at 4x and AF 8x. Also I did just drop it to high settings and then medium settings. It seemed to run faster at high and then at full speed when dropped down to medium with fps capped at 60.

I have 4 gigabytes of DDR2 ram just at 800.
It slows down both day or night basically to an unplayable level.
I have the newest graphics/audio drivers. I am not sure about chipset as I have not updated it recently

You're not using the iFPSClamp .ini modification are you? That would cause this.

well I can only suggest the usual.

with the new update you should rename/move the dll fix so that it dosn't start up and see if that helps at all.

yes your cpu/system might be too slow and your overclock might be an issue (you can debate this all you want but I've see over clocks cause so many issues in just one game in the past it had to be taken off before it stopped randomly crashing for example). I'd save up ~$200 or $350 and get a new lowish end quad core (amd or intel is fine) and some newer ddr 3 1333 ram (faster if you can and your motherboard/cpu supports it).

a 260 should be fine to run this game.

how much hdd space to you have free? if you have less than 10gb or 20gb you might want to see if freeing up some space helps and a defrag. I've seen this work wonders with an xp system (have yet to have this issue with win 7 x64).

not much else I can suggest I'm afraid. can you borrow a cpu for your system? perhaps look for a 2nd hand quad core cpu or somthing that's a min of 2.66ghz?

also you might want to tweak your anisotropic settings and . some gfx cards will run better with diffrent settings for this (for example my 5970 run terrible with 4x sampling and alot better with 8 or 16)

Actually yes I was using the iFPSclamp mod. I set it back to the default setting and it speed right up.
