Game save mods

Post » Wed Dec 04, 2013 5:53 pm

I reinstalled Oblivion then restored the game saves. When I load one of those save, I get a warning that a mod is missing

but I can play seemingly without a problem (the game I just loaded). Playing the game loaded with my current installation, saving then reloading the not-so-old game, won't give me the mod missing warning.

The problem is that I can't figure what my character is missing. Moreover, I assume I installed those mods for a good reason in the first place. Unfortunately it's been a while since I last played and I can't remember which mod I installed.

I even loaded the game save in the hope to figure it by myself but I couldn't ; it may had succeeded if it was XML. I hope I can get to know if my character has something missing loading the old save game without the mod, because I'm scared of saving ATM which could potentially loose the items or loose the progress (making that game save useless).

Thank you kindly for your help.

Generally you can remove mods from Oblivion saves and continue playing without any problems. It's much more robust in that respect than other TES titles. You should only lose whatever items or quest progress was associated with the missing mods.

WryeBash is, among other things, a great save game manager. If you launch it and click on the saves tab, you can click on the save game and get a list of all the masters associated with it, or just the ones that have been removed or added.

Thanks. Would that tool, WryeBash also let me know which item I'd loose not having the mod installed (while loading the game) ?

Update 1:

Knowing which mod is missing is very helpful but knowing if I'd loose an item would be great (without the mod installed).

Update 2:

Good thing http://sourceforge.net/projects/oblivionworks/ has the file as http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/22368/ required to be logged.

Nope, you would have to know what the mod adds.

Well I had to reinstall Oblivion to install WryeBash as the former was in a program files folder, thus was subject to Windows UAC. My previous installation, the 1st thing I did was install Oldblivion but I'll do it last this time. I'll install the game save missing mods first: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=oblivionmods.detail&id=1054 & http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=oblivionmods.detail&id=1956 ; I doubt any of these 2 added something in my inventory as part of a quest so I feel safe not installing either although I'll do it as I think they're good, the latter because I'm playing a monk. OOOH!! Maybe something that would have vanishes would I have saved without the mod in an added skill for the unarmored mod ; say I spend 2 hours getting hit building that new skill.

So just set up an account on the Nexus, it doesn't take long and won't cost you anything. It's by far the best site for getting mods.

Also you do not need to be logged in to nexus mod manager to use. Logging in only gives you a few more options in regards to checking if you have the latest version of the mod.

Wyre Bash and Oblivion Mod Manager are the better managers to install mods. Wyre Bash for all mods except the ones that use omod format in that case you use Oblivion Mod Manager.

Boss is used to help sort load order and to help with finding any issues with the load order.

I usually just load mods into Nexus Mod Manager while logged in but do not install using it. So I can keep track of any new mods easier.
