Game script (dialogue, holotapes, terminal) content request

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2015 7:59 am

I'm doing a Master's thesis about narration in Fallout 4; I asked Bethesda if it would, somehow, be possible to obtain the dialogue (+options) used in-game in written format, including the holotapes and terminal entries, since writing them down by hand would be an extremely time consuming task. They recommended asking in the forums - I am uncertain if they're simply too busy for it, or such, but if anyone knows of a method to do so, or can extract this information from the game themselves, I would be extremely thankful.

I do not require EVERYTHING in the game (that'd be too much for the limits of a master's thesis anyway), but as much as possible would help either way. The holotapes, terminal entries and the dialogue are a big focus of the study, aside from the other methods utilized to convey the game's narrative - while the other things can be studied easily enough in the game itself, dialogue paths, holotapes and terminal entries are difficult to keep track of via normal means.

If you have any thoughts on how to achieve this, suggestions or even the data itself, please leave a message - I'd be thankful for any help.

(I've cross-posted this request in the spoilers section, since it seems to fit under both.)

Fallout 4 edit, http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2737/?

Open that and it will crack open the esp file, from there you want to look at the file book, (which will include all notes found in the game). As for the talky bits, not sure what that would be under in fo4 edit.

edit: You might try contacting the dialogue overhaul folks who changed the format from short blurbs to the full sentence. At the very least they could point you to where such information is stored.

edit2: Or you can use http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_4_holodisks_and_notes for the notes/holotapes.

You can use FO4Edit off the Nexus to look at the game data (http://i.imgur.com/eWP2Dw7.png). However, it represents the data as it is in the files which is not intended for easy reading. It's the best format you'll get though.
