Game of the year edition - disc not working

Post » Tue Oct 12, 2010 12:59 pm

Hi,
I have purchased game of the year edition and (games for windows) and the first disc installed fine but I simply cannot get the second disc to work.

I have Windows 7, 32 bit and I have tried Safe Mode, Run as administrator, turned off autoplay, turned off UAC. What else is there to do?!?!

I keep getting some lame a** dialog message from installShield:

Setup has experienced an error. Please do the following: - close any running programs..... etc etc

This whole issue just makes me sad. It is 2010 and you can't deliver a computer game?! I mean come on! You create the best game ever and you can't make an installer for it. Shame on you!

Fallout 3 was released before Windows 7 so it isn't a supported operating system. I'm not familiar with installation errors but there area few tweaks to the INI file you may need to make so it runs properly. It's not something I'm personally familiar with but hopefully you can find help in one of http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=core&module=search§ion=search&do=quick_search&search_app=core&fromsearch=1.

Might be some installation data 'stuck' in your Temp Folder from all the attempted installs. To clear the Temp folder:

Go into Safe Mode
Click Start
In the Run/Search box type: %temp%
And click Enter.
Delete all the junk in that Temp Folder.
*Any file that's in use by another program/app won't delete. Just delete what you can.

Try installing Disc 2 again. If it fails, clear the Temp Folder again and...
---------------
Reboot the PC. Because installing in Safe Mode didn't seem to work out for you, I'd suggest trying to install Disc 2 while under a http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135. Make sure that any AV/Malware scanners are temporarily disabled while trying to install.
--------------
If that way also fails, you can try copying the contents of Disc 2 to a folder on your PC, and then try installing from there. (yeah, its a pain but it does work for some folks)

After trying all your suggestions a couple of times I grew tired. Nothing is working with that sh*tty installer.

My solution was unfortunately to get the DLCs from Arrrr! and place them in folder where they belong and then it worked as expected.

My conscious is clean. I bought the game and got the license. Shame on you for not supplying your game through a working installer or at least offer a downloadable option for us with valid licenses.

/H

Booting and installing in safe mode always has worked for me, and most others too.
