Game of Thrones (ASoIaF) Thread #2

Can anyone tell me if Daenerys ever gets a downgrade in her [censored] levels? I like her a lot, I want to like her more. Just wish she'd calm the hell down.

Also if someone could PM me if she succeeds or fails, that'd be great too. I don't mind spoilers, I want something to look forward to.

*shrugs*. I mean, I watch the series, half the books I listened in audiobooks : Brienne seems to be Bree-ehn in the series, Brai-een by Roy Detrice. Mind you, he pronounce Maegi Ma-eh-gi in the first audiobooks, and meh-ji in the lastest.

For what it's worth, he says Petyr Peh-tai-r. Don't recall how it was said in the series, I think Peh-tyr is it.

Another good episode this week. I don't know if it's because they've gotten all the exposition out of the way, or because the writers have gotten better at six scenes, but they're much less gratuitous this season.

Spoiler
I liked all the scenes this episode, but I think Margaery is the show-stealer here. Just so amazing to see a master politician at work. I never got this impression in the books, I always thought Margaery was a naive political pawn with smarter family members.

I loved that they had Gendry directly address the biggest headscratcher from last season - namely why Arya didn't kill the big shots like Tywin with her three kills. Seeing Thoros of Myr at last was also very cool. I think like three-quarters of my Warband characters are named after him.... for reasons that come later in the season.

Also, poor Theon. /shakehead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':shakehead:' />

I've just started my first re-read of aCoK and I'm at the Bran chapter where Little Walder and Big Walder explain their lines of succession. I know that there are different methods of succession when passing on a monarchy, lordship or title to heirs, but I don't know what they are.

On page 77 in aCoK Big Walder is explaining their lines of succession: "We're cousins, not brothers," added Big Walder, the little one. "I'm Walder son of Jammos. My father was Lord Walder's son by his fourth wife. He's Walder son of Merrett. His grandmother was Lord Walder's third wife, the Crakehall. He's ahead of me in the line of succession even though I'm older."

So I'm assuming even though Big Walder is older, he's isn't granted succession before Little Walder because Little Walder comes from Lord Walder's third wife down the line while Big Walder stems from Lord Walder's fourth wife.

If I'm wrong please explain how I am wrong. If I'm right explain it to me anyways, it's confusing me especially since Lord Walder has so many damn heirs.

I love the portrayal of Olenna Tyrell in the tv-adaption. Fun character, well-established in one scene.

Hahaha looking forward to it. "I do so hope he plays us 'The Rains of Castamere.' It has been an hour. I've forgotten how it goes". I do love scary little old ladies.

The Reed, though... I don't know, maybe they'll grow into it. The boy in particular jarred.

They're too.. clean? I don't know, I can't really recall my mental image of them. Maybe because I didn't really like that arc too much.

Id say i equally enjoy both the war and the Nightwatch arcs. The war for the political scheming and the Nightswatch for the Others.

Reading the books though, Danys chapters bored me incredibly,to the point where i just skimmed through most of them. :\
They're more interesting in the tv show though, so i still enjoy those scenes.

Jojen's casting was so good! Despite the lack of green eyes he was creepy as hell. I had no trouble believing that he has the greensight.

I really liked Bran's scenes this episode. I don't think I've ever liked a Bran chapter or scene so much. The dream sequence was nicely done.

Also, Mance called the warg 'Orren' or something. Wasn't that supposed to be Varamyr Sixskins?

Am I the only one who liked Dany more in the books than in the show? Seeing a lot of hate for Dany in the books and I'm not getting it, I like her chapters.

I cant really remember why i didnt like her chapters, to the point of where i barely read them.

I think it just felt a bit slower than the other characters, there was a bit more magic (warlocks/dragons etc). And she just annoyed me really, though i cant remember why. /shrug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
In the show though, while as a characther shes still slightly annoying, its a bit more interesting to watch than read.

I don't know, I kinda pictured him smallish, rather unimpressive yet wise when he speaks. That kid ? He just seems to smirk, even though he's supposed to be serious. I find it interesting that they make Osha dislike both Bran's dream and Jojen. Sure, they need another cause than Luwin's advice to cause the separation between the starklings, but still.

Speaking of changes, I love that they made Shae so protective of Sansa. Although making Catelyn think what befell her house to be caused by her lack of love for Jon, a bit much.

I don't particularly HATE Dany's chapters, but ever since Drogo passed away, the Dany chapters aren't that interesting IMO. Plus, personally, I'd like to see her sail to Westeros soon than dragging it out many books.

I agree I feel she has spent too much time in mereen in the books, but the final chanpter in ADWD had me in high hopes for the continuation of dany's story.

Plus
Spoiler
Tryion is in mereen now, so things with dany will hopefully get a lot more interesting.

DovahNerevarine:
Spoiler
As I understand it she sold out Dany. There's a deleted scene floating around YouTube where she goes all evil monologue on Irri and kills her.

No, I liked Dany more in the books too. I've never been bored by any of her chapters, even in ADwD. In the show Emilia Clarke is fine, and Iain Glen is the best, but the Dothraki leather outift thing they had Dany wear was silly as hell, and it's a lot harder to ignore the orientalist implications of Dany's arc when you see it on-screen (super blonde magical princess has adventures and smashes injustice in the corrupt Orient). Not to mention the way the stretched out her sparse story in season two was kind of annoying.

I actually sniggered as I'd never noticed the implications until I thought back on it just now. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

To be fair, it makes sense for her to have worn the Dothraki outfit, I mean, even in the books she was dressed as one of them.

I was disappointed with the Jaime/Brienne swordfight from the most recent episode.

Jaime should've at least landed a hit on her.

I'd have to say that my favourite characters are...

Tyrion Lannister

Ayya Stark

Eddard Stark (
Jon Snow

And probably a lot more. But I love Ayya.

Seven Hells, Joffrey needs to die.

I was saying the opposite even though I knew how it would end. Jaime's my favorite character. In the book version of the fight, he wounds Brienne's thigh and the fight is a lot closer until Brienne finally wins. Also Jaime's legs were bound if I recall. The TV show is doing a horrible job at showing Jaime's top notch swordfighting skills. He's the best in all of Westeros but the TV show has done nothing but make him look like all talk and nothing else.
