[Early mod idea] Game Of Thrones

Please make it possible to play as Tyrion Lannister ;)

It would make for an interesting viewpoint on Skyrim

I really hate him lol! Well... we'll see what happens

You don't like Tyrion? He's so awesome though, very quick-witted and full of surprises. Personally, he's the only Lannister I can stand. :tops:

You have to take into account the level of maturity in the story that is a song of ice and fire.

Of course! I wouldn't add lego-berserkers fighting Al Gore or something (joke ) . If there will be a project it will stay true to that specific world, otherwise it would be meaningless & a huge waste of time

Personally, I think the world of Westeros is pretty boring. Its the characters and the intrigue that make it great. So if you do decide to give a SoIaF mod a go, make sure you get a good story.

Well said.

I fear Westeros doesn't lend itself to action RPGs -- most likely not to CRPGs of any sort -- and certainly many of the elements that make the novels so powerful and engaging would be utterly lost in that medium, no matter how well written. So... much as the idea appeals to me... I can't see Game of Thrones translating well to Skyrim at all.

That said, if such a project was started up seriously, I'd follow it with interest.

On topic, I'm not sure how an Elder Scrolls: ASoIaF would work. It's not like there's really a 'main quest' you could follow. It's a lot of court intrigue and splits along a bunch of points of view. The world would be nice to explore, but what would we do with it?

I can agree to that. It would be hard to really give it a main quest, if any!

Perhaps you could follow the intrigue through the eyes of a solder (in some of the diffrent "factions). Depending on what family you choose to serve you will start in diffrent areas of the gameworld & experience diffrent "endings". That's just one way to go..

I want a greatsword like that, like Ice, the most beautiful greatsword I've ever seen. There is something so wonderful about it's simplicity, it doesn't need spikes jutting out of the blade or handles. All it needs is to get the job done, and of course, being made of the ever sharp & durable Valyrian Steel certainly helps as well. :tops:

 This guy knows What I'm talking about.

As for an RPG main quest, some character could go on a quest to find a different character who disappeared or something. You could go from village to village asking if they'd seen them.

"Hello. I am looking for my sister, a maiden of 10 and 4 with Auburn hair."

yeah, im down for that.
of course the first place to start should be the wall. and we can work our way down the kingsroad from there. westeros would probably be pretty simple if we can use most of skyrims default architecture and flora, later we can get enough unique assets to replace some of the more repetitive elements.
shame there is no mounted combat >:[

Don't know if you have decided on a time frame yet, but I highly recommend picking a period prior to the events of the first novel, perhaps towards the end of the reign of the Targaryens or even centuries earlier, maybe at the time when the dragonlords traveled from their homeland in Valyria and began conquering all of Westeros, kingdom by kingdom.

Setting the game at exactly the same time as the novels, with the same characters - those would be some HUGE shoes to fill. I think it would be a lot more difficult to pull off, unless you focus on the story of some minor characters, but even then, the large, sweeping events of the world will involve the people we know and love (or hate) from the novels, and it would be tremendously challenging to write believable dialog and quests involving these super famous characters without it feeling gimmicky.

Also, I don't know if you were aware of this, but GRRM passionately abhors any fan-fic involving his beloved characters.

SERIOUS POST THIS TIME! Make it during Robert's Rebellion, and have the quest end with the Battle Of The Trident!

elderscrolls is NOT just an action rpg. the game is not just about killing and gaining experience and gear, even with that said this series does lend itself to an action element because of the many battles that take place on behalf of the houses.
ALSO as a matter of fact the non action element could be handled much like the great houses in morrowind, complex factions and character development are not impossible for an elderscrolls mod, they are just difficult because of the scale. however due to the popularity of the series, i doubt you will have trouble getting people to want to voice these parts and work on this project. good luck, if i have any free time, ill be glad to lend a hand to the project if it gets started.

Thinking of Tyrion has made me wonder if Skyrim will let you pick your PC's height.

My goodness! That would be interesting. Making a dwarf that gets his companion to do most of the work, while perhaps using some magic.

(With the exception of the kid playing Prince Joffrey, I hate that [censored]. But I guess that shows how well he could bring a [censored] character like that to life.)

That doesn't make any sense. You hate the actor, yet you think he portrays the character well? Sounds like it's the character you hate, not the actor. That he makes you feel that way about Joffrey just shows how terrific an actor he really is.

But yeah, Game of Thrones would be awesome for Skyrim. I know I'm putting the soundtrack in the music folder :)

Seeing as how the game is political in nature, it'd be hard to make the atmosphere seem as interesting as the books/series. It's possible, but would require a lot of effort - which, let's face it, a total conversion mod takes in the first place. :P

Good luck to you guys, I hope you can throw something spectacular together. :D
