[Early mod idea] Game Of Thrones

Post » Fri Jul 08, 2011 9:53 am

Hi my name is trancemaster and Im a modder for Morrowind, some might know me from the mods section or some from my Morrowind overhaul: Morrowind Rebirth.

Anyway Im sure many of you have watched the amazing show game of thrones. I myself cant wait for the second season.

The other day I sat thinking "what if we, you and me could make it possible to enjoy this fantastic world through a mod?" What game could be more moddable than skyrim?

Of course we couldnt simply copy the series straight of due to copyright, but theres a lot of potential.

What say you?

Long trip short trip, you decide!

There's A Song of Ice and Fire mod for Medieval II: Total War. Don't see why a Total Conversion mod for Skyrim wouldn't be worth a shot.

But of course don't copy the series, make your own story about Westeros rather than copy G.R.R.M. I say go for it, if you need help should you decide to do it, give me a PM. My modding skills are basic but for story and quest ideas.

If you make the Stark family sword, Ice, a greatsword in Skyrim you'll be God. :tops:

(Also, I don't know how to mod or anything, but I'd be glad to bounce ideas off you, if you'd like?)

It will be a lot of work, take a long time to finish and you probably need a large group of collaborators to pull it off, but why not?

Sounds like fun, and I would help, if there is anything I can do.

I don't want to be one of those people, but read the books - they're better. :)

But I won't knock the HBO series - they managed to stay very faithful to the books.

The Starks will fit in perfectly fine in the climate of Skyrim, after all they've always known "Winter Is Coming". :tops:

(I just bought the first four books the other day)

You dont have to wait for the second season. Just read A Clash Of Kings which has been published for over ten years.

Of course, but I love seeing it brought to life on the big screen. Plus, the actors and actresses are all fantastic. :tops: (With the exception of the kid playing Prince Joffrey, I hate that [censored]. But I guess that shows how well he could bring a [censored] character like that to life.)

Oh HBO fans, I can't WAIT till the Show gets to Season 3.

The amount of Shock and Outrage that will fill the internet will be Intoxicating.

Well after my favorite character was killed the amount of outrage was truly shocking, some said they'd quit watching the show. :P

Very plausible, like the lord of the rings changer for oblivion or nehrim for oblivion. A lot of work of course, a lot :)

I started watching the show yesterday. Pretty awesome so far.

I was just thinking of how well a Winterfell-themed quest would work in Skyrim. As a college project I thought maybe I would learn to mod Skyrim and create a small quest related to it. Though by then I would probably prefer to make one with my own story.

Thinking of Tyrion has made me wonder if Skyrim will let you pick your PC's height.

Defend The Wall from Wildlings and the "Others". (Just putting the Wall into Skyrim would be a feat in itself I'm sure) :tops:

I was just thinking that, but damn how awsome of a "jump" would that be to the bottom haha.

I dunno, I doubt modding can do justice to the story of "the song of ice and fire".
<- Big fan of The Song of Ice and Fire :P. 12 July can't come quick enough.

Thanks for all the replies! Good to hear Im not the only one around interested in this type of mod. I know it would be a lot of work, but you gotta start somewhere right? Ive got quite some skills making exteriors, and I dont think the skyrim toolset will be that hard to get into either.

Ofc I cant work on my own. I know theres great modders throughout this community.

Actually theres a lot that could be done before skyrim get released.

Damn I hate to write on my android phone :P

Personally, I think the world of Westeros is pretty boring. Its the characters and the intrigue that make it great. So if you do decide to give a SoIaF mod a go, make sure you get a good story.

I agree. Obviously this is only an idea at this stage. I cannot tell if it will happen or not, but if there's enough people willing to give it a go (and with enough experience), it could indeed become awesome.

As I said, much could be done before Skyrim gets out. Like music, models, heightmap etc.

It could also be a good idea to make the world a bit smaller than it should be (scale it down). Otherwise this project could go on for several years, which really ain't my plan.

I wish I could help, but I know nothing of modding. I'm only a person with ideas, unfortunately, and no means by which to bring those ideas into fruition. :(

You'll have to learn it the hard way like the rest of us modders! :P

I guess we all will be pretty lost the first few hours using the skyrim toolset.

Please make it possible to play as Tyrion Lannister ;)

It would make for an interesting viewpoint on Skyrim
