Game of Thrones

Spoiler
SanSan refers to Sansa and Sandor. I agree that Littlefinger is at least somewhat politically minded, but I think most of his love for her is due to his infatuation with Cat.

Spoiler
Absolutely...there's no doubt that Sansa's value to Petyr is multi-faceted. She's a key piece to his plan to acquire everything he was deprived of by his small stature and relatively low birth. He and Varys are a potent little bundle of genius and dysfunction. :)

In case the spoiler tag isn't enough, major book spoilers in this reply.

Spoiler
What puzzles me about it -- even if we accept that Petyr telling the Hound's story is due to his affection for and political uses for Sansa -- is that unless events in the series are compressed a lot more than they already have been, it's a long time before Petyr has anything more to do with Sansa. It's not until late A Storm of Swords, and then A Feast for Crows that Petyr's relationship with Sansa gains any real significance.

So assuming they even plan to cover that much of the books, it seems odd that they'd bother to establish Petyr and Sansa's relationship. The Hound's long gone by the time Petyr "rescues" her from KL (it's not until the fateful wedding that she even knows it's Petyr), so I can't see why they'd drop one for the other.

I'm I the only one who is a little disappointed with how they've made Hodor look? The beard and gray hair just strike me as making him look to old in my opinion.

I personally imagined him quite a bit younger (although, since Old Nan is his mother supposedly, that would be kind of weird). I also imagined him to be taller. Since he is supposed to have giants blood and all that.

I don't think Nan is meant to be his mother. Grandmother, possibly with 1 or more "Great"s in front of it as far as I remember.

I always had it in my head that he was mid-20s or early-30s, although I can't remember if an age was ever specified. Given his parts in the story to date I don't suppose his actual age makes much difference.

Just did a quick check on the wiki, he is Nan's great-grandson.

With Hodor, as with a lot of GRRM's more extreme characters, it was probably just hard to find someone who completely fits the bill. Hodo needed to look big and tall, and I'd way they've accomplished it

Oh don't get me wrong, I know that they have to find people who fit the bill as closely as possible - and that is pretty hard for unusual characters like Hodor and Tyrion (how many giant or dwarf actors are there? Not very many).

I've long ago accepted that the people they cast for roles won't look like how I imagined them.

all i have to say is that im glad this show isnt Legend of the Seeker. LOL

i havent read the books and dont plan on reading them. even if i did i would wait till after the TV series because when i saw the first LOTR movies i was amazed at how much was left out because i had read the cliff notes version of the first book. i hadnt read the second or third cliffnotes so i had no idea what to expect. the second and third movies were better in my eyes simply cause i didnt have anything to compare them too. almost no one ever says that the movie or tv version of a book was better except for the ending in the movie "the mist" by stephen king (favorite movie ending of all time.......ever) movie version was much better. :)

although i like campy shows like merlin one of the appealing aspects of Game of Thrones is that so far i havent seen anyone fling around any fireballs or shoot lightning bolts. no invisible spells or cloaks, nor have i seen any magical swords that cut through any armor or bad CGI dragons or fairies. this is a medieval fantasy that seems to be focusing on politics and the machinations of some really big [censored]s. kind of refreshing change from the normal fair. i hope they dont go off into silly silly land and start having floating wizards and dancing hippie elves doing cartwheels show up all of a sudden. keep it how it is now............more down to earth and believable.

I've never understood the SanSan shipping, so I don't particularly mind the change over to Littlefinger telling the story.

I suspect they gave Littlefinger the job of telling that story simply so that it would be told immediately after the audience was introduced to Ser Gregor. People who have never read the books may have some difficulty remembering all these new characters, and that story is a nice way to cement Gregor in their minds as a complete monster.

Well, as of book 4 (the most recently-released book in the series...until this summer) there's none of that. It's a very low-magic setting, and what "magic" is present is regarded as extremely rare and mysterious. It works really well. It makes the fantasy elements a lot more exciting when they're not treated like something mundane to the setting.

That said, if you're much of a reader I highly recommend the books. Hands-down one of the best fantasy series I've ever read.

Just saw the first episode and Wow....just...wow. I've never read the books but I found it absolutley amazing. I enjoyed it even more than Rome, a series that I absolutley loved due to my history-nerdom. I have no idea how faithful it is to the books, but the attention to detail is fantastic.

I fear my study shall go neglected now I've found this gem :D

By the gods Old and New, that was amazing. Best episode yet.
Spoiler
Though I don't like how they included the whole briastfeeding part (way too creepy) and implying Varys is a creeper (and I'm not talking about the cute green things from minecraft). Also, the Loras + Renly thing was awkward to watch with my dad, that's for certain :cryvaultboy:

How did I never get the impression that Renly was gay from the books?

I actually didn't realize it before the third book, where Littlefinger threw out a comment as blunt and direct as the one he made in this episode. It was implied earlier on, but more subtle than this episode to be sure.

Spoiler
But yeah, definitely gay. I laughed like a clown at the gay scene they had. So over the top.

Only if you wanted to know how good Loras was at it, without actually seeing it, I guess.

I don't remember Renly being quite such a wuss in the books. I mean sure, he didn't get in fights all the time or threaten people as much as some of the others do but being squeamish about the sight of blood?

Me either. Sure, he's a little flamboyant, but sufficiently bold and I never got the idea that he was afraid of battle.

But yeah...didn't expect a scene with Ser Loras taking a lance to the face in quite that much detail.

Enjoyed the latest episode. Couldn't help but smile when Renly mentioned Stannis, also couldn't help but chuckle a little at Loras playing Renly's pipe.

I couldn't stop laughing at the shaving scene. It was nice expositionally and all, but damn. For some reason Lysa didn't come off as creepy as she did in the book, which is saying a lot.

Weirdly enough, I think this was my least favorite of the bunch so far.
