Game Type?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:25 am

I know someone has asked this already somewhere but I am new to this forum and I don't have the time to read through all 80 pages. I was wondering what game types there was going to be. Are there going to be objective style game types? What about regular team deathmatch or free-for-all???

Thanks for the help!

I'm pretty sure that there's only one game type. That's all I've heard about.

The ones that I know of are:

1. Search and Destroy: Attackers fight their way to the objective site and the defenders must hold them off.
2. Escort: You will escort either a robot to an objective or you will have to escort a human hostage to a safe location in the map.

These are the ones that I have actually seen in action and know for a fact are in the game. Someone will come in and add I'm sure.

Each of the [10] maps has an entirely separate and original series of objectives. ^_^

So all the game types will be objective based?? I feel as though this might cause some conflict because a lot of people don't like objective based game types. They are in it just to get kills.

I"m not sure if this is what you are talking about
http://monstervine.com/2011/02/brink-preview/
The matches are entirely objective based, with one team attacking, and another team tasked with holding off the attackers for as long as they can (matches usually last between five and ten minutes). Each match is presented with a cut scene that tells the story of the Civil War on the Ark. Objectives range anywhere from hacking into a terminal, to guiding a V.I.P to safety. The missions encompass other multiplayer types of matches, like capture the flag or sabotage, but the developers do an interesting job of masking each type of mission in story related scenarios. All the missions are intertwined together, to make one lasting battle, with multiple objectives happening during the match. Each objective requires a different class to complete it. Hacking a terminal requires an Operative, while escorting the V.I.P in one mission I did, incorporates all classes to protect the V.I.P, but requires a Medic to give him health when his health is running low. Players can switch classes to fill out the different roles required for each class. And don’t worry, you just change the role of your characters, not your gun load out, or appearance. The only thing I am worried about with this, is if everyone on the team clamors to be the same class so they can fight to see who gets to do the objective first. It only really requires a few players to fill out the certain roles, while other players must stick to different roles to help out the team.

Yeah, the objectives depend on the map. It's the main reason there isn't a death match mode is so that players don't just go out to get kills but actually work as a team, which I think will be really good, if it works.

Well that's their loss.

Brink doesn't show kill tracking in normal games (but it tracks them so custom servers can include that info), so all they'll know is how useful they were to the team (or weren't if they're ignoring objectives to try and kill everything)

So does this mean that each map will always have exactly the same objectives? So lets say one map requires you to escort someone.... Will you always have to do that on that particular map?

There are 2 missions for each map, and each mission can be taken from both sides.

So you'll have a total of 4 different paths through the mission.

Also, each mission is multiple objectives, not just a single one.

For an escort mission, it's not going to be "get VIP from A to B" and nothing else.

You start off "break into compound" - when that's done, new objective "Release VIP from prison" - from there you finally get the "escort VIP" part.

This is a made-up example, but it gets the point across. The mission changes as you progress.

Yeah, a map will have the "Main Objective," e.g. Blow up the reactor, but in order to get there you will (example):

1. Blow up outer compound doors,
2. Hack into a computer to find out where the reactor's core is,
3. Have an engineer repair a console so a blast door can open,
4. Plant the bomb at the bomb site and defend it until it blows.

Things like that which I am excited to see. :foodndrink:

So how is the game timed? Do you have a certain amount of time to complete each objective?? If so, what happens if you fail to do so? Does the game just end or does it give you an alternate objective? Also, Is it like most other games where you switch sides after each round and the team with the most round wins is the over all victor? I'm just trying to get a feel for the mutliplayer gameplay.

objective games > regular tdm
tdm gets boring and repetitive, objective games when played with a clan/team is the most fun u will have playin a shooter

like ppl have mentioned the maps on BRINK will have multiple objectives on it and not just X map is Escort only but a series of objectives for both sides

closet thing i can think of is Killzone's warzone mode with multiple gametypes making up 1 game mode

Since you are new to the forums welcome. Second off, this game is created for a crowd of objective junkies. The only way to win is to work together. And the only way you can get alot of points is by helping your teammates. kills alone give you barely anything.

I believe when it comes to "Mission Time" there are two options:

1. Each objective has a set amount of time and when you complete that objective the clock resets and you move on to the next objective. If you fail then the mission is over and defenders win a :turtle:

2. There is an overall mission timer and you have to complete every objective in the time given or else the defenders win a :turtle:

Not certain, but I believe that is how we are going to roll.

Each objective has a time limit.

Also, from the sound of things, the game is probably balanced so a team that's dominating will have a harder time as the objectives progress, so less skilled teams will still be likely to finish the first objective at least.

Each objective has it's own time limit. Completing an objective starts a new time limit for the next one. Failing to complete an objective results in the game ending, and your team losing, So if your first objective is blow up a gate, and you have 6 minutes to try and do it, that means you have 6 minutes until the game ends if you fail to do it. If you complete it within the time limit, regardless how much time is left, the timer is reset for the next objective - the time limit isn't necessarily the same for every objective.

What about switching sides? Do you switch sides of the game after a round? Are there rounds? If not, are you on one side for the duration of the game with no rounds?

As I understand, there are a couple of different modes to play in.

In campaign mode, you play as one side. If your side wins, you stay on the server/host and progress to the next map/level. If you lose, you move onto another host/server and play that map again.

I'm not sure if in the other modes you switch back and forth, or if there is even a mode like that.

It would be nice to have some game types that switch back and forth so the two teams can really compare who is better. It would allow the teams to prove which team is working together the best.

in Stopwatch ,from what i read, u play both sides
1 team attacks 1st and tries to complete the objective as fast as possible
the team that defended 1st will now be on offense and switch sides for the 2nd round and will have to complete the objective in a quicker time in order to win

Its called stopwatch mode.

One team attacks with no time limit and the other defends. Then they switch roles, whoever has the faster time wins.

no time limit?
so what if the other team is just inacaple of winning? are we just suppose to play a never-ending game?

Well at least what they have said been awhile since we had specifics I am sure the game won't go on forget and the losing team might all just ragequit anyway.
