In-Game VOIP [Where is it?]

Post » Sun Mar 09, 2014 10:55 pm

I'm still playing, but of course, in-game voice has been off for awhile. When I'm chatting over the mic I'm usually in guild runs. I float my characters through about five guilds right now, so it's no big deal for me to swap servers to talk to another group for a bit.

And I am a typist. I'll relay what people are saying in 4-and-1 groups. Got gripped at halfheartedly by one of my guild leads because I could actually type it faster than he could say it.

Plus, when you DO get it going just right, more often than not I've felt like I was playing Call of Duty, cause most randoms seem to just cuss and insult other players for not taking up their slack in PvE.

That's why I like to stick with guild. Chat can be personal or public fairly easily. You moderate what you say before you type it more often than not. But voice, that tends to be more fluid and less filtered. I prefer to keep the voice coms to teams I know.

Even on the 360 and the One, I'll stick with party chat over game chat. If I ain't got a party, I don't even hook up the mic.

3rd Party is fine for your guild. But if you're PUG'ing something, you may not want to give your Voice Server info out to everyone. Using an in-game tool allows you to still use voice, even if the quality isn't as good.

Wait why is everyone bringing cod into this?

I'm sorry but that argument is just entirely invalid, or if it is valid

Then A. you not a very charming person or are extremely unlucky

OR

B. You would be saying then entire gaming community is full of brats and ill mannered individuals.

PLUS

there is an ignore option.

Something is really off about these forums, people here are extremely pugnacious about things that simply improve gameplay and add value to the game.

i have even seen people argue about the world being too open as it is (even though its quite linear!)

I want a VOIP modifier to make my Orc sound like orcs sound in my head... very deep, gravelly voice with a kind of slightly cockney accent... at least, this is how I always imagined Orcs would speak... I know TES does them otherwise, but this is MY imagination!! lol

You make a compelling argument for option B yourself.

Perfect, got you right where i want you, now for the killing statement.

so you would claim that every single individual is rotten because you found one person who you cannot troll without him laughing in your face.

So i say again, troll harder?

Ignore doesn't prevent someone from hearing it in the first place.

Believe it or not, hearing a loud barrage of sixually explicit expletives directed at ones-self , even for just a few seconds, can be incredibly damaging.

Not to mention there's no way to report it. If someone decides to tell me they "want to shove a broken beer bottle up my **** " (something I've been told over a public voip) in text chat, that's fairly easy to report. How does one moderate a public voip (unless it's all being recorded)?

I don't care if they have it, but it would NEED an option to turn it off entirely.

I dont think anyone is "against" in-game voip.

Personally i just think its not worth to put resources into it, especially so close to the release (the first month will be a mess of bugs, like every other MMO at launch).

Every game with Voip has always had that option, so no need to worry, if zeni adds it im sure they will have all the bells and whistles, outgoing, incoming, the works.

I sympathize with the plight all of female gamers.

If they built an in-game VOIP tool I would be stunned (to death) if it couldn't be disabled.. It would be unprecedented if it didn't.

Well I have never experienced sixual harassments in games and I have been a hardcoe MMORPG player for 15 years now.... I guess if you're a woman you might be more of a target.

However the option to turn it off entirely really does not improve your situation because you will just get yelled at in /tell "text" for not listening then as people would assume you can hear them.

A /ignore button should be good enough. "Sticks and stones may break my bones. But names will never hurt me."

I abuse the hell out of the feature in Rust and Dayz. I use a 3rd party talk program for everything short of trolling and getting people to fall for stupid [censored].

As far as neverwinter, I did the same thing I did in EvE and WoW. I turned it off because it was more annoying than helpful.

Wonder if there is a difference between EU players and US players here... I'm a EU player but I notice that most people that have mainly bad experiences are US players.

After reading most comments, IMO VOIP should be third-party.

Personally, I've never used it. Seems it would shatter a lot of the anonymity of such games, and I already don't like other players even sending chats my way.

I never got much cursing and insults from aussies, outside the standard fun jibes here and there.

I don't speak the same language of over half of the EU, so unless they are cursing me out in English or German, I'm oblivious anyhow.

In the US, it's not everybody, just the younger kids (<25). But I doubt we'll see a ton of them due to the overall costs of this game.

Wait ... EvE has sound?

This is how I feel. Not against, just think they could spend their time doing things that I feel are more important and necessary.

Like in-game housing.

I dislike the idea of VOIP.

I've been playing games with VOIP and games without, and to be honest in MMO's I prefer not having VOIP; chat is enough.

As other already wrote, there is always an option of third party.

Much harder to roleplay in VOIP, too. I'm not good at making weird voices. I can, however, type any which way I feel like.

I would prefer proximity chat, had it in Xbox Live in many games. Better way to meet people.

You get the younger kids abusing people and need to have thickish skin, but I'd prefer it.

Well all EU countries have English as second language in school so that is the main language to use when speaking to people outside your country.

Well I don't think EU players are more polite then other players. But here in EU we usually motivate way we think some one is an idiot... IE we just bluntly say what we think about some one and way.

Ahh, that lovely moment when your walking past some guy in Fable 3 and you hear his stereo through proximity chat.

Or worse. The rough grunting of afk love.

Not that it's a bad idea at all. Honestly. Just that it had funny moments.
