Game won't auto save... PLEASE help!

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 10:05 pm

Hey guys anyone has trouble with auto-saving? It doesn't seem to work at all it's set to 5 minutes but I find my self more than plenty of times being unsaved for more than 20 minutes, I've tried tweaking the .ini as well for the sake of testing and set it to 1minute but it just doesn't work at all it seems. It does save when I open pipboy or stuff that is mentioned in options but then again I tend to not open it every 5 minutes either...

Tried running as admin both steam and fallout exe, nothing. Changing in game didn't work either..

if in those 5 min u are in a fight the game is unable to autosave, so it will save later, try to stay in a safe spot and let me know if the problem persist

I've been standing in one place without any fight for like 20 minutes but nothing, I've even tried playing with .ini and changed it to save each 1 minute but it didn't do anything either, thanks.

This is extremely sad, I've probably lost more than 5 hours of playing all together cause I kept forgetting to quicksave

well, maybe i've got an idea but im not sure, someone should confirm it, maybe the game autosaves only when u actually do something significative, i mean when u enter a new area , when u modify your inventory and that's why isn't autosaving while exploring unless u do 1 of these things, i repeat, it's only a theory, i should test it but im currently working (teorically) so.. give it a try maybe

yeah it does save on special occasions, as stated in options when you open pip boy, move from location and something else, but the auto save option that should be saving every few minutes is not there, I mean I don't open my pipboy every second last time i've lost around 40minutes of playing cause I did not open pip boy and forgot to quick save.

-download AutoHotKey o ACtool

-download or make a bot which press periodically th F5 button (for rapid saves)

-enjoy

Have you checked to see if you have the fallout4 folder in your My Games directory?

Depending on your OS version, it should be located within your / Documents / My Games / directory. If you do not have it, you may need to create it and then allow read/write permissions. You can do that by right-clicking the folder and choosing "permisisons" and allowing both read and write to that directory.

Well I guess I'll live up with the AutoHotKey for now, changing the folder from read only didn't do the trick sadly.

I did have the folder and running with windows 10, oh well it will serve well until CASM mod or something like that comes out I guess - besides not many seem to have the problem or in fact I haven't noticed a single post about it until now.

Anyways Thanks every one once again

Thanks for letting us know, deliqo.

Is it staying as read-only when opening it again, or is it keeping write permissions and still not working ? A few players have mentioned having to do it a couple of times. In the meantime, we'll keep looking for a more permanent solution for you!

Hmm it actually set it back to read only, i'll retry it again, thanks for pointing it out.

I've done it few times 10~15 both in game and out, still coming back to read only for some reason

You may need to go to the "Security" tab, choose "Advanced" and then ensure that your profile has permissions enabled. If you are not the administrator of your machine, please be sure to contact your network administrator for this.

It's my own computer, and I've checked permissions already they are grayed out so I can't really change them but 3 of the users, System,Admin, myself have all the permissions.

I've went a bit further and looked on how to change it through command promt by attrib -r +s "c:\users\XXXX\Documents\My Games\Fallout4" but it has no effect either D:

I downloaded AutoHotKey, but now see that it is not so auto. It wants me to write 'script'? Would someone please explain what I need to do to get AutoHotKey running?

Thanks

Hey Bud, sorry I didn't see you've asked a question here, I'll give you the code once I'm back home from work. Had to learn and search a bit to make it work as well but it's pretty simple.

Yeah, well that should work too, mine looks a bit different I've made it to turn on and off but the idea is the same yours look much more simplified mine looks like current optimization in f4 :D

anyways make sure you run the script with admin privilegies else it won't register in game, if it still doesn't work you could compile it into .exe

to make the script make new text file and rename it to name.AHK and past Alexerin's code inside with the changes where needed.

In my case, I have changed all permissions to Administrator. I have unchecked the box Read-only several times and each time after right clicking the folder the box reverts back to being blocked out again.Yes, the permissions have stayed the same. [email protected]
