Game Won't Start After Uninstalling Frostcrag

Post » Fri Jan 21, 2011 12:03 am

I'm trying to install Frostcrag Reborn. It did not install properly (floating items everywhere), so I thought maybe disabling original frostcrag isn't enough, I have to uninstall it before making a "clean save" for Reborn. But now after uninstalling original Frostcrag the game refuses to start. I can re-install it and the game launches but that isn't solving anything. Any clues?

Did you rebuild your bashed patch after removing it? That typically means there is plugin in your load order that depends on the one removed. The bashed patch looks like the only candidate in your load order.

Check installation docs for Frostcrag Reborn. IIRC you should not disable/uninstall the original Frostcrag.

Wait, I thought Ervvyn uninstalled the original DLC after trying to remove Frostcrag Reborn, not while trying to use Frostcrag Reborn. I am still thinking the problem lies in the bashed patch unless you have another mod dependent on the DLCFrostcrag plugin.

Edit: Try regenerating your INI file as well. I do not know why the Frostcrag BSA would be registered in the sArchiveList in the Oblivion INI (which might cause a crash if the BSA is no longer installed) or it could be some other random setting in the INI. It is worth a try anyway.

Yeah, Bashed patch was the problem.

This is what the mod readme says:

"If you have already begun to play through another version of frostcrag, be it the original or otherwise, you need to make a 'clean save' before installing Frostcrag Reborn. A Clean save is a save which has no Frostcrag version installed at the time of the save. Do this by momentarily deactivating any version of frostcrag, and then making a save."

Just unchecking the esp wasn't enough, I had to uninstall original -> make clean save -> reinstall original -> install Reborn.

Thanks for the help.

Not rebuilding the bashed patch is a common thing to overlook. To be sure, you should rebuild it whenever you change your load order, even if you only edited (or replaced) a plugin.
