game wont run after reinstalled windows

Post » Sun Dec 19, 2010 12:30 am

Hey
I had some problems with windows 7, so I decided to reinstall it. I didn't format the harddrive so no data was lost. When I try to run fallout 3, first it said cant find xlivedll but solved that. Now when i click on the exe nothing runs. when i run the launcher it shows me to install the game but already installed. Any way to fix this without reinstall fallout3?

Did you make sure to delete the Fallout.ini in My Documents>My Games>Fallout?

Edit-I didnt read fully. Its not seeing it because its not in the Windows registry. You would either manually edit it (not recommended) or reinstall and copy over everything in the Data folder to keep mods.

if you reinstall your OS with fresh install even you didn't format your disk, you must re-install your FO3 too...
maybe FO3 can run without installation, just check your registry 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout3' "Installed Path". If not listed in there just add manually and create new registry string "Installed Path" then add your path game to this key..

In order to edit Registry, you go to Start>(Search box)>Regedit.
I wouldnt recommend it though, a single wrong value and you could mess up your Windows install.
