Gamebandits.com Confirms Skyrim Romances

Post » Sun Jun 19, 2011 10:59 pm

Hopefully they're just letting the idea out to attract some people. Oblivion and Morrowind both has quests involving romance, but it was by no means as pathetic as a Bioware romance

Almost seems like they read the German mag that came out talking about romances and wrote this article, thinking it was confirmed there.

I think it is great, the npcs in the Tes series were not that well portrayed so far, this may be a way of giving them more substance and more personal motivations.

Agreed. And I finally get to have my Vampire Queen. : )

On a more serious note, I'd hate to have a relationship that ends up with you just doing it to get in their pants, and you get dumped right after (Sound familiar?). I would love a romance or friendship quest, that was deep enough to where you feel something for that character, heck exclude romance I'd love even just a friend in TES Games, you could never really say you had many, just people you saved... Baurus and Martin were the closest to people you could call friends in Oblivion, unfortunately Martin went out with a bang, and Baurus (On my save) died to the deadra >_> you really didn't have anyone except the Adoring Fan to go back to. It'd add something no ES game has really that I know of.

I agree. I think TES games already have a perfectly good hook to get us to grow more attached to certain NPCs, and that is the heroic/action element itself. A skilled writer could easily engender an increasingly meaningful sense of friendship, even romance, over time. Something BioWare never learned to do - making companionship and romance integral aspects of greater narratives, with a great deal left to the player's imagination and interpretation of the situation, as opposed to dialogue choices (which I think strike most players as hollow, if only subconsciously).

I've serious doubts about this article, though.

if tehy will ahve biowaresque romance crap...god help us all

Haha I'm not that concerned, the romance in the BioWare games felt good for those games, I really liked it, whereas the romance in TES will be more like TES I suppose... the only downer for me could be the poor writing and/or being limited to a few given npcs. But if the romance part is just a rather discrete dialogue option that pops now and then when talking to npcs with good disposition, it's going to be fine.

People wants a roleplayinggame and romance in it would make skyrim more like an rpg! I was always sad there was no options for romance in oblivion and this is only good news! I mean, who wouldn't fall in love with my character and his wonderful beard?!

Exactly, and that article is already really vague about it. :P

Maybe it went something like this?

German Interviewer: Are there companions
Todd: Yes, there are several companions you can become friends with and adventure together.
German Interviewer: Will there be romance with companions?
Todd: (Not wanting to say a straight no): Er.... We're considering it.

German interview: COMPANION ROMANCE COMING TO SKYRIM

Gamebandits: Hey I saw this forum thread which said romance was confirmed and it linked to some german article that says something like that...

Gamebandits news article: BETHESDA ANNOUNCED SKYRIM HAS ROMANCE LIKE BIOWARE GAMES

Looking forward to this. Could be cheap/cheesy but skippable, or could be great and enjoyable. I don't see it as a potential downer, let alone deal breaker.

No copyright statement or anything on that site, source is utterly unreliable. It certainly isn't a media outlet of some kind.

WHAT announcement? No such thing has been announced in an official capacity.

I think the article in this thread just used the (german) romance source that was up to debate earlier on these forums... and then paraphrased it.

Fingers crossed...

Anyway, i'll be happy if by choosing the friendly text option male NPC's don't all start to get the wrong idea...

I had to be a jerk to all of the male NPC's in Mass effect and Dragon Age to avoid awkward moments... :poke:

I hope the new romance system finally let's me role play as an Imperial sweet-talking bounty hunter with a girl at every settlement.

Morrowind had a quest romance, sort of, with http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Ahnassi,_a_Special_Friend.

I really doubt they'd make a article about romance if it's just stuff like Ahnassi.

I don't usually complain about features that have been removed from the series or even never implemented, like spears, thrown weapons, cross-bows, short-swords, greaves, hand to hand, agility and spell-crafting, i understand there are time constraints, but when i see a gimmick like this being lauded i have to question the decision to spend development time on "romance" instead of the above items mentioned.

They have already stated that we can make friends with NPC's and if we break into their house at night they will offer us a bed instead of calling the guards. Maybe this is an extension of that?

Argonian maids for everybody! :celebration:

Weapon polisher jobs confirmed (even if there are no spears...) :celebration:

Romances seem confirmed, since Todd has saíd you'll be able to develop friendships with NPCs over time, and eventually they might offer you a bed to sleep. This might lead anywhere :hubbahubba:

I wouldn't mind some flirtatious dialogue at all but I don't like cutscenes. It's a game I play, not watch. If TES ventures into this area, I'd be fine with it if it's not overdone and it leaves a lot to the imagination.
