Gamebandits.com Confirms Skyrim Romances

Post » Mon Jun 20, 2011 5:47 am

I recently read an article on gamebandits.com that indicates NPC romances are confirmed in Skyrim.

The article didn't cite any sources and none of us on the forum has seen any other confirmation of this. Since it seems very unexpected and kind of strange that there are no other sources to confirm, I'm a bit concerned that the journalist might have gotten his facts mixed up.

http://www.gamebandits.com/news/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim-bethesda-follows-biowares-lead-in-rpg-romance-07211/

What do you think?

If it is true, it sounds really intriguing, but I have a lot of questions, such as how would romances work in a game without any cutscenes?

I sent a PM to Nick to inquire about this. Perhaps someone with a twitter account might ask Pete.

If it's inaccurate, I'm sure they would want to know.

On the other hand, wasn't there kind of technically a romance option with the prosttute in Megaton?

EDIT: @8:40am PST June 17, just received PM from Nick Breckon

Yeah, we're checking on this one. Will get back to you.

I think it is great, the npcs in the Tes series were not that well portrayed so far, this may be a way of giving them more substance and more personal motivations.

If I had a twitter account, I'd ask him for sure.
I think it would be a great idea as long as it's not like Fable or (here's a few gifts, let's bang). If it was like Bioware, where you had to talk to them numerous times, but they expanded on it, that'd be cool. Maybe you'd have to help them with quests first, kinda like New Vegas. Then after a while once they trust you, they'd open up to you - something like that.
On an unrelated note, fix your sig. It says error when I click on the first two. :(

They cite no sources whatsoever. They don't even reference that one German rag. This confirms nothing.

Some sites get their information from these very forums, and with all the speculation and WMG that goes on here they're bound to get confused about something at some point.

I'm doubtful. However, even if romances are in I probably wouldn't get involved. I'm a huge fan of Bioware games, and even then I never really went into romances. It's just... well, boring for me. I would rather kill things and save the day, or not save the day. Either way, I'm killing things... which, to me, is a lot more fun than "romancing" a character that probably doesn't have that much depth to them anyway. I will buy Skyrim to slay dragons, as I can't do that in real life, not to kiss pixels... XO

No copyright statement or anything on that site, source is utterly unreliable. It certainly isn't a media outlet of some kind.

Come to think of it, this announcement is not that surprising considering that the Elder Scrolls series has always prided itself on its attention to realistic details, story depth, and game play word interaction.

WHAT announcement? No such thing has been announced in an official capacity.

I'd tap that. On a more serious note, I'd hate to have a relationship that ends up with you just doing it to get in their pants, and you get dumped right after (Sound familiar?). I would love a romance or friendship quest, that was deep enough to where you feel something for that character, heck exclude romance I'd love even just a friend in TES Games, you could never really say you had many, just people you saved... Baurus and Martin were the closest to people you could call friends in Oblivion, unfortunately Martin went out with a bang, and Baurus (On my save) died to the deadra >_> you really didn't have anyone except the Adoring Fan to go back to. It'd add something no ES game has really that I know of.
