PC gameplay and screenshots

Post » Fri Oct 07, 2011 3:18 pm

Just when I think PC gamers get over their sense of entitlement, a thread with a subtitle states "We deserve it".

No, you really don't, you want it, but to think you deserve anything is laughable. It's not like you support them out of charity, the relationship is mutually beneficial and as such, we PC gamers have no leverage against anyone.

Still, I'd like to see some confirmed PC Screenshots, just to compare the differences.

@DCDeacon Shifting my concern to the PC version
@Andrew_Reiner The PC version looks and runs great. If you have a high-end PC, it's gonna melt your face.

I highly doubt we have seen PC screens maxed out.

Yes... and PS3 footage, too. We haven't been seeing "console" footage as you put it OP... just 360 footage. I wish people stopped lumping the two major platforms of this console generation together all the time. They're separate platforms with completely different hardware architectures, APIs, parent companies, developer support, features, interfaces, etc. Seeing 360 footage is not like seeing PS3 footage, at all. Anyway, I think, now that we're merely a month before Skyrim's release, it's about time we saw both PC and PS3 screenshots and footage.

they have put PC screenshots out there, except we cant confirm if some of them are PC or not.

Besides the new ones from PC Gamer that a certain member digitalized. He's probably suffering from a suspension right now but, luckily, I saved them. :)

You know what scares me most about Rage's technical issues? It's the fact that John Carmack, one of the world's foremost experts on video game programming, was behind the tech running Rage. If Carmack is capable of such screw-ups... what hope does Bethesda have of doing better?

Leverage, being money spent on product. Regardless of how anyone feels about entitlement. Consumer confidence is always a factor; not everyone has undying loyalty to any given company.

If consumers had no leverage against a company representing a competitive product, they can get away with making turd on sticks for a fortune.

Well I want them I guess since I play on PC and I would like to see it but I hardly think it's necessary. The only thing that's different is how good it looks and that's not why I'm buying it so meh

Keep in mind we have already seen several PC screenshots. Yes, it's not the same as video, but it does give some indication of Skyrim's visual performance on PC.

This mountain vista was rendered on a PC:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/mountains-skyrim/

This Draugr was rendered on a PC:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/draugr-crypt/

And this Bosmer was rendered on a PC:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/wood-elf-male-2/

There could be more, but those three at least have obvious AA and texture improvements over the aged consoles performance ceilings. Realistically, PC Skyrim won't look dramatically better - the geometry will still be quite polygonal, and obviously no modern DX11 effects... It will just be smoother and less blurry. Oh, and performance wise will obviously be better - that is one thing that doesn't require speculation. Loading screens will be faster, and a mod will surface shortly to remove the walls into cities.

I am a PC gamer, I absolutely loathe consoles, and I certainly feel frustrated at how much Bethesda have given up on the PC community - the community that put them on the map. Nonetheless, I still can acknowledge this will be a good game, despite inheriting the disgusting hardware limitations of the inferior consoles version. Mods will allow us to remedy much of this, so I can keep my angst to a manageable level.

Bethesda have said nothing of those screenshots being PC screenshots... and that Bosmer is known to be a journalist's custom character on the 360 version, so...

I'd be perfectly happy if it looked just like the 360 version. What we have seen looks nice and its an open world game so i don't get that picky. Apparently it will look better and I will likely be able to run it on max setting for a boost in my initial impression.

The mountain vista shot's resolution is higher than what consoles can display.

BTW, Beth never says which is which.

Don't worry, consoles will keep Bethesda on the map with the unneeded help of PC's. :foodndrink:

Bethesda has a great team and a decent records since the start of the 00s, we'll just have to wait and see through

It doesn't matter. The Bosmer screenshot is from the 360 version because it was released with all the other custom characters created by journalists playing the 360 version. This is something we know is true. As for the mountain vista... that's not something a PC will do, either. Look at the proportions. Considering it kind of even looks like concept art and given the completely unlikely (by in-game standards) angle and scope of the screenshot, I wouldn't be surprised if, assuming it actually is a screenshot like Pete claims, it's a cropped and photoshopped screenshot or, even more likely, a screenshot taken from a cutscene.

A great technical team and decent porting record? No, they don't have that. Morrowind on the original Xbox was a pretty poor port, Oblivion on the Xbox 360 was also pretty poor, and Fallout 3 on the PS3 was pretty poor.

Pretty sure the mountain shot was several shots put together.

I would like to see some footage on PC, but I doubt it this close to release.

I'm still pisst off about RAGE. I guess that's why they named it RAGE, knowing PC gamers would RAGE after trying to play this pile of [censored].

Wasn't Oblivion developed on the Xbox360?

PS3's always get a buggy port at least from my experience

That too... cropped, photoshopped, stitched together... same thing... :P

I really think it's from a cutscene, though. It just looks weird... as in not like an in-game vantage point or graphical quality.

It's not the first time Bethesda took an out-of-body screenshot.

you're not the only one. This board seems like a predominately console gamer group which might make it seem that way.
