gameplay>graphics

For me gameplay = graphics = crucial, they are equally important to immerse me in a game and I think the game market has reached a point where there are enough games out there that provide good quality in both gameplay and graphics so I don't have to trade off anything.

I used to think that graphics are better than gameplay, but after so many years of playing games i learned that after playing more than 3 hours on a game i stop noticing the graphics, sure there are a few "awe" moments but you spend about 80% of your attention on playing the game not looking at the graphics, i would even say that the gameplay is the root of the tree where the graphics are just a branch of the tree.

Sound Design is extremely important as well, having a nice satisfying thud when you kill an enemy can be the difference between playing the game for a few minutes or a few hours at a time.

I did, for example when you see the male humans fighting, and one of them does a slash and then backslash, it reminded me a lot of oblivion, the only thing that i saw that was different where the finishing moves.

So....people slashing with swords. What, did you want them to juggle them?

The beauty of ES games is the moddability ... anything lacking in the PC release will be fixed by the community (bad textures primarily)

Tech wise as long as they use DX11 and its features the game will be incredibly scalable, we will be able to modify the DX11 effects and thus create a game that looks ultra six.

The moment they announce the game will use DX11 you know this game will look amazing for the next many years. Hell with mod tools combined with DX11 effects, depth of field, motion blur ect we'll be able to get skyrim looking better than this.

Let's pray to Akatosh that both will be great.
Although knowing Bethesda's previous games, what is not done by them shall be fixed by modders.

You don't notice good graphics. You notice bad graphics. People need to stop linking "Good" with "Technologically advanced", there are NES games with good graphics, and PC games with bad graphics.

To me, the time when you're killing a foe is just a "conflict resolution" mechanic to get to what I consider the real points of an open-world RPG: exploration and character development. If I wanted a basic combat game, I'd play a FPS.

I actually have to agree with you on that rpg's thrive on the character development and exploration, so i guess repetitive gameplay doesnt really matter because i guess the goal of this type of games comes down to how much you have improved sinse you first started playing. So then maybe graphics do have an advantage in these type of games.

People seem to forget the industry needs games in every genre to push graphics and tech forward if they dont then PC gamers will not buy high end hardware, if high end gaming hardware sales slow the progression of technology slows by massive amounts. Never forget PC gamers and there demand for more powerfull tech is was pushes gaming and what developers can do forward.

technology is part of the experience.

To tell you the truth, i dont think that any of the console developers tend to upgrade their machines because they have realized that game developers really cant make better graphics with more powerful machines because they dont have the money to do it, it would take too long because they dont have the tech, and its not really worth it when they see wii games selling so well with such crappy graphics, the only thing that i can think of that would advance the tech would be if people stopped buying casual games, and demand better graphics games, but thats not going to happen.

I'm mostly a PC gamer and I have made numerous posts here dooming the game's graphics for not making use of new technology. I also doubted the proper implementation of dynamic shadows and on a number of occasions, the quality of the game's color scheme.

After watching this trailer, I feel compelled to eat my own words. Everything looks fantastic, the landscape, the mood, the architecture, the combat, the magic. And in due time, the music will no doubt make its way to the Halls of Greatness as one of the most memorable scores ever made for a game.

Skyrim's art and design are clearly an improvement over Oblivion and I have no doubt the game will success in the graphics department. It's not looking as impressive as The Witcher 2 with its huge resolution textures, but then again there is no way it ever could without a change in the company's goals. However, there's obviously a huge artistic value in this game, and I'm very confident now the game will look glorious on a PC with larger draw distances. As for the textures, if they're not large enough upon the release, they will look amazing with texture packs and better lighting as the community improves the game.

I suppose I own Bethesda an apology for doubting they could pull off something impressive out of an outdated piece of hardware.

yea, i actually have to give two thumbs up to bethesda bacuse they havent only managed to make the resolution better but they also improved the art style so far the creatures in skyrim look really cool, can't wait to see more.

Yes, absolutely.... gameplay is more important than graphics.

Of course, I have no idea why this post is here, because that trailer looks stunning. I'm honestly flabbergasted at the fact that people can look at that thing and say that it's an example of "bad" graphics.

Graphics are fine the gameplay is always the thing that I will be most concerned about.

It seems to be improved from OB but trailers only show the good aspects of it. So until I play it I can't say for certain how it will play out.

There is still alot to be shown and alot of time to keep this hype up, hence they are not showing the full potential of the game.

Imagine just a couple of months before the release when they'll show footage from high quality PC version + alot of new stuff we have not seen. It needs to be even greater then what we've seen imo.

I think the game seems awesome and feels really alive in the trailer though...
