gameplay>graphics

I know that the trailer may be work in progress and there isnt any concrete information that we can get from it but like some people have already mention the fighting system looks a little bit like oblivion and to me that isnt a good thing, so there may be many people complaining about some graphical issues but what we should really be worried about is the gameplay, so what do you guys think, is the gameplay improved or is it the same arcady fighting system?

Meh, there is no graphical issues. It's just people stuck in the set of mind of the higher standard of the PC and keep trying to equate the 360 version of Skyrim (everything that has been revealed) to the PC. So people are doomsaying because there is no dx11 and so forth but fail to realize even when someone points it out to them that the consoles don't support the features they think are missing. The PC version will most definitely have everything that they expect to see but people can't seem to grasp this or they don't want to grasp it and instead have something to complain about, I don't know. My fingers get tired of having to jump from thread to thread trying to explain that everything is perfect.

No one ever said the combat system was getting completely overhauled. However, the combat is definitely more engaging and looks a lot more brutal and intense, which it should. We also have to consider Magnetism into the equation which will also effect how combat turns out.

Both are important. You can't ignore one because the other is important. Nobody's complaining because the water isn't tessellated, or blast processed, or whatever, they're complaining because relative to the rest of the scene it looks *rubbish*. You can't say "Oh it'll be fine on PC" because it doesn't look as good as the rest of the scene.

(content)>graphics = ftw. but money>improved gamplay.

the game would be better if they focused more on content than graphics, but streamline is mainstream and they are a business after all.

I liked Oblivions fighting system, but it got boring and repetitive after a while. Skyrims looks like it's going to be a lot more strategic, and is going to give you a ton of more options. So I think the fun factor is going to last for a long time for me.

So far from what we see of the gameplay I like. Duel wielding, the running (or sprinting), the finishing moves, the dragon fights, the dragon shouts, it all looks like it's going to be fun. And all the stuff we read about too, like the conversation system, the crafting abilities, and the dynamic quest system.

graphics add to gameplay and immersion they also help to warrant pushing technology further, we also spends lots of money on our machines so we want to justify those costs.

PC gamers are pessimistic; primarily because of the system shock caused by games like Cod MW2, and the utter betrayal.

The fighting system doesn't look much like Oblivion's... There seems to be more strategy to it, as an earlier poster said.

I guess what i was trying to say is that the gameplay in oblivion was very dull, block and slash, what I would want in skyrim is a more engaging gameplay, better animations, make it more believable, and add gameplay where the player's mental skills actually matter, if we have the capability to do great things, than why not be rewarded with deep gameplay. Sure there are many features that the elder scrolls games have that attract people, like leveling, infinite constumization, but what all those features ultimately come down to is how it functions when you're killing a foe, or at least that's what i think.

Even if the 360 isn't as good in res than pc, it still looks really good in my opinion. People are just being really picky about some of things that have seen in the new trailer

Gameplay will always be more important than Graphics. As an example, When Oblvion came out, I was awed from the graphics. I say about 12 hours, I started to hate Oblivion, because it wasn't Morrowind 2.0. So since the game play svcked big time for me, (at the time) I gave up on Oblvion. I was shocked, it was only a week and I stopped playing. After a month went buy, I tried it again, and then I loved it for what it was. Yes the game play was simplier but it was still fun. I love Oblivion now. Still I wish the game play was better.

Eye candy is nice. Really nice to have, but if the game play is not there, then no matter how jaw dropping the graphics are, people will not play the game. People don't play Morrowind or Oblvion for over 250 each just because it looks pretty, but because the game play is fun.

Why not have both? It's a AAA game with a big budget behind it.

Tbh it's not as easy as to just say gameplay > graphics, or gameplay > anything else. They are all equally important, especially for a game like this. With awesome gameplay you have a great foundation, but if crappy graphics or a lame soundtrack or story comes with that gameplay, it's rather like a cake with no cream, or love without kisses. In the same respect, you can't have a great game without great gameplay, of course.

(I love the Skyrim graphics so far, btw)

I just saw the video, and i thought it looked great. I am a PC gamer. So, if the game looks this good on a console, i will be more than happy with the PC version.

Since the dawn of gaming its always been about the Gameplay coming first , but if you can have both , the better.
But if you could only have 1 .. then Gamplay with poor graphics is alwys better than Great graphic's with poor gameplay.

We do have both. Arean for it's time looked beautiful. Daggerfall was awsome for it's time. Morrowind blew everyone out of the water when it came out. Oblivion was just magnificent when it came out. Seeing the trailer and now knowing that it was done ont he 360, it just breathtaking. I didn't think the 360 was capable of doing that for a machine that is over 5 years old.

We do have both. I am just saying I prefer gameplay over graphics. When there is great graphics it's just adds to it.

For me gameplay = graphics = crucial, they are equally important to immerse me in a game and I think the game market has reached a point where there are enough games out there that provide good quality in both gameplay and graphics so I don't have to trade off anything.

I did, for example when you see the male humans fighting, and one of them does a slash and then backslash, it reminded me a lot of oblivion, the only thing that i saw that was different where the finishing moves.

To me, the time when you're killing a foe is just a "conflict resolution" mechanic to get to what I consider the real points of an open-world RPG: exploration and character development. If I wanted a basic combat game, I'd play a FPS.
