Yeah people have noticed this before, I say it's meant to be this way and that the windwill is an entrance to a parralel world

Windmills in Tamriel are powered by magic, not wind. The vanes are actually a holdover from older wind-powered windmills; over time magic was used to improve upon the technology which made the vanes redundant. Most windmills still possess vanes, however, but this is simply for aesthetics and tradition - and it does mark a mill as a mill, otherwise it's just a nondescript tower.

This also explains why the vanes are going backwards, many people no longer understand the original mechanics and are just interested in having the vanes.

I feel kind of evil for seeing this and thinking "yay it's this thread again!" It was so fun reading it the last time. I wonder if they will fix this by the time the game releases.

What a load of... Skyrim!
As a Dutch windmill expert I am deeply offended.

This scene was meant to be the other way round (panning from right to left) but they found it looked better from left to right so they just reversed it.

Wouldn't it depend on the hemisphere we're in? To the best of my knowledge, there have been no efforts (by developers or otherwise) to give Tamriel a specific position on the globe - only in relation to other continents.

Then again, has anybody tried using the latitude and longitude lines on the http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/gallery_files/redguard_map.jpg to try and do this? :hehe:

Beaten to it. Try using the search button next time.

Also why is it a fail? I guess that would mean the entire TES universe is a fail since there is no such thing as magic and walking talking lizards and cats. So who is to say the physics world is not different in Tamriel and things work different or backwards?

I remember somebody once tried to defend Oblivion's shoddy ragdoll physics by suggesting that gravity was weaker on Nirn than it was on Earth. Could you imagine?

Dude, do you even have an idea how a windmill works? Have you ever seen a fan? A fan spins and blows the air because of it, and if you would blow the air on a fan it would spin. So a windmill is a huge fan. Something like that :spotted owl:

You are talking about water in a basin. It spins in different directions in different hemispheres because of the Earth's spin. I even used to remember the name of that effect :geek:

EDIT: Oh, that emoticon is a "wave"? I was absolutely sure it stands for a guy banging his head with his hand lol

I sincerely doubt it is mirrored, and even if it were it wouldn't change the spinning direction of the blades.

Unfortunately, I don't. Outside of Don Quixote and helping my younger brother with an Environmental Science worksheet once, my knowledge of windmills and wind currents isn't very well-founded. :P

God help my brother.
