Ashley:
"We want a system where people can get into the game faster."

"It's not one complete set per se."

"You can mix and match armor, boots and helmets."

How is this "nothing"?

I saw this a few days ago when it came out, it took a while to get to the forum. It just about confirms that pauldrons will be in. He goes on and on about how customizable armour will be and how you can mix and match pieces. How in any way at all does this mean pauldrons are out?!

how do you know he meant armor as a collective single equipment item?

I raged about 2 minutes into this. Thinking, "Why the [censored] would I want to wear glass boots with daedric greaves, oh wait I can't even do that. Why the [censored] would I want to wear glass gauntlets with a daedric cuirass?"

I would much rather wear pouldrens on just my shield arm, like I did in Morrowind, but I guess I'll never be able to do that again.

It's just easier to randomly call greaves, pauldrons and cuirass 'armor', while singling out helmets and boots, right?

I can't be the only one who clearly saw Ashley get a bit defensive at the question and sugar-coating what is a more streamlined armor system.

Well didn't they already confirm on twitter that armor would not be a complete set but be separated into curaiss, greaves, boots, and helmets. I thought the only remaining question was pauldrons.
But if you ask me, the way he explained things kinda gave everything a roundabout answer so I wouldn't go by it.

In the demo gameplay video there are items called 'Elven armor' and 'Iron armor', he is obviously referring to that, there is no point denying it.
I've already posted on a large thread yesterday about this, which is in fact identical to this very thread here. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1202080-helmets-armor-gauntlets-and-boots/page__st__80__p__17913702#entry17913702

I believe he left the moment you said that...

But yeah, I'm pretty upset about this. Not a game killer for me, but why would we want less customization? Makes no sense.

Bahh there's been *almost* too much discussion about this :P

Anyway, I don't wanna judge anything like this completely until I know the reason for it.

If the reason was "We want a system where people can get into the game faster." for possibly merging pauldrons and greaves into an "armour" set, then I'm unhappy and pretty disappointed.
If the reason was to minimize clipping issues and such, then I'm happy and perfectly fine with it... seeing what we would have to face otherwise.

I see even you highlighted 'per se', and it went over everyone's head. Honestly, some people here have just divorced themselves from reality.

I really don't understand why they don't just explain their decision to make the change (because I'm sure there is a legitimate reason for it other than "we didn't feel like making more armor"). Just explain your rationale as a developer and the sane fans will understand and be cool with it.

Furthermore...

THIS MEANS NOTHING!

You'd be happy if they said they are doing it to minimize clipping? Ive already noticed clipping, like the pc arm clipping with his armor in the shot of him walking into town with the guard and dog. Clipping is going to happen, and I'd much rather have greaves separate. I'll take clipping over less slots any day.

It's disappointing, but I understand why they did it. It just opens up design choices abit more when you don't have to worry about X chest clipping when combined with legs X. Now they can make more unique looking 1 piece armours.

Again, I would rather they were separate, aswell as the pauldrons, but I've gotten over it. You lot are just setting yourself up for major disappointment if you keep telling yourself it's not confirmed, when it so is.
