Gamer IntegrityMoney Talks

Post » Thu Feb 06, 2014 1:56 pm

When pre-purchase orders came out and we were told we would get extra benefits for pre-ordering the Imperial edition, many people went into a rage about paying more to be an Imperial. Since that time, there have been numbers published by Dealzon. ( thanks to http://www.gamesas.com/user/722618-srikandi/ for providing the link in his original post about it, which can be found here: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1486826-sales-numbers-on-imperial-and-standard-editions/ )

The numbers can be found here: http://www.dealzon.com/blog/exclusive-race-works-elder-scrolls-online-imperial-edition-outselling-standard-edition-by-5x-in-pre-orders

What does this tell us about our gamer integrity? Many people moaned and complained about this "pay to win" scenario, but how many of those people actually bought the collectors edition (online or physical). Note that the numbers Dealzon has gathered are limited BUT, I think it speaks volumes about our wants over our integrity.

Well cast your vote and throw your stones! Explain if this "pay to win" scenario prevented you from buying the physical collectors edition, the online collectors edition, or prevented you from buying the game at all!

False premise. It's not pay to win. Benefits of Imperial are purely cosmetic or marginally time-saving (having a horse right away instead of waiting to buy one in-game with in-game currency)... Imperial Racials are not likely to be overwhelmingly more powerful than Bosmer or Orc or any other race. There is nothing whatsoever that is pay to win.

Looking for the "I bought the CE because CE exclusives are the norm in MMOs and are not at all pay to win" option.

Firstly I don't think a good number of people here understand what Pay to Win means...second poster does...

Secondly this information proves only one thing to me and I has nothing to do with gamers integrity. It does tell me what I have always believed and that is the very vocal complainers on ALL game forums are infact a very loud minority.

I am not answering the poll but I will say that I am preordering the imperial edition and I am very excited about this game...more so than I have been about any MMO in a long while.

Take away the racial bonuses and there is no advantage playing one race over another. Completely cosmetic/graphical difference and that's it. There is no additional content, the game does not react differently to playing as an Imperial compared to other races. There is no place in game Imperials can go to that other races cannot.

It's funny but most of the people I know that got the Imperial edition got it for the 5 days early acces. (since the standard with 25% of only had 3 days, and when the choice is between paying 60$ for the standard and 60$ for imperial...well you know)

I don't think that the poll is indicative of Integrity at all...

Integrity by definition is having a solid moral belief, code of ethics, or definitive choice made previously; then sticking with that choice even after great adversity, sacrifice, or other unfortunate event or time of trial.

Sticking with the Imperial Edition or not simply because of release information does not reflect Integrity in the Gamer. It may or may not reflect a change of mind based upon the new information, but that's wholly different from Integrity.

At this stage you can't say the bonuses are pay to win.

Some aspects are found in game, and the money spent merely allows access to them earlier, or cheaper (mount, rings, armor style).

Some aspects are purely cosmetic (crab, mount, armor style).

The Imperial you can't call Pay to win either at this stage as it's racials are not known. It could be, yes, it could also be underpowered. We'll have to wait and see.

You also left out the possibility of people being on the fence.

I myself was going to buy the game and am now on the fence (I have participated in beta). I might still buy it (i will refuse to buy Imperial even if I do), I might not. More information about end game would be nice, though.

If you're going to make a poll like this and expect real answers, you can't word the question this way. Labeling the poll "Gamer Integrity" combined with the words "pay to win" in the question automatically implies that if you did purchase the Imperial Collectors edition that you have no integrity.

I bought the standard edition because supporting the imperial edition would have been just wrong.

It is rather shocking to see how many customers actually went for the obvious cashgrab and bought the imperial edition though.

Considering it's not pay-to-win I can't vote in this heavily biased poll.

Exactly why I got the online Imperial Edition as well, I could really care less about the other benefits.

Poll is centric to either purchase CE or regular.

No option for not buying at current box price or due to leaning towards cash shop infrastructure.

Making the thread poll either you love the game or you just like the game.

I am a retail collector and a TES fan so this was easy. I was going to buy the physical collector's edition for its physical collectibles (box, book, statue) and I'm very happy with the purchase, I think it's good bang for the buck.

I bought the retail imperial edition, definitely for the benefits. Especially after they announced Imperial race. As integrity goes, I never once complained about the system, and instead embrace the fact that I get more than a normal standard edition buyer. I welcome the idea of actually getting more than other people. Is that against integrity, well I never once changed my mind, so no it isn't in that sense.

Is there anything immoral about my decision, that's all opinion.
