Well we still got Witcher 2. I also hear Tamriel Rebuilt is coming pretty far in Morrowind!

"There's plenty that's Oblivion about Skyrim, and probably less about it that's Morrowind than some people will like"

This journalist must be kidding me, what happened to "we try to walk the line between Oblivion and Morrowind"?

Reading the whole two posts, I think some of you are far too quick to curse. It reads like Todd was saying that Skyrim won't have the wierdo giant mushrooms and other glaring strangeness of Morrowind and will be "feel" more familiar. Oblivion felt familiar in a way that Morrowind did not. Skyrim, from what we've seen, will also look more familiar than the alien Morrowind, even with the variety of environments already shown.

In the end, though, it shouldn't really feel exactly like Oblivion, or Morrowind, or Daggerfall, of Arena. And it won't. It will feel like Skyrim, just as the past games felt like themselves.

Of course, it's the journalist's opinion people are freaking over, not official info.

That's exactly what I understand from that.

Haha look what Oblivion made of us, we're jumpy at every single phrase like that one. I'm not that worried, maybe the Morrowindish part of the game was not too proeminent in what they chose to show in the demo. maybe the Morrowindish part is in politics, joinable houses, the main quest, the diversity of landscapes, the rare loot. There is still plenty of game to show. We all know Todd likes to show dragons smashed with the mace (LOL!) but that's part of the game, not THE game.

People are freaking out because Skyrim isn't a clone of Morrowind. Skyrim is Skyrim, not any previous game.

I think people are more worried about some promises not being fulfilled, one of them being that Skyrim would "walk the line between Oblivion and Morrowind".

Nicely said, but of course it's not official info, it can't be. Bethesda would never announce people "hey, this game is more like Oblivion and nothing like Morrowind", they need to keep all the fans interested.

I agree, the demo can't show everything and one reviewer's opinion is not alpha and omega of gaming. A Todd demo is a bashing and slashing demo by default

Yeah, because a Morrowind clone is what we've always wanted, right? No.

If Skyrim was as good as Morrowind in its own different way that would be fine, but in all likelihood it won't be, and that's why it doesn't make sense to carry over at least some of the the successes of Morrowind into Skyrim.

I'm [censored] tired of people saying "HERP it's not a Morrowind 2, it's its own game and will be special in it's own way DERP" as an excuse for the game not being as good as it could be.

Maybe because people would like it to be exactly like Morrowind?

I did enjoy Morrowind more than OB, but I find it an interesting juxtaposition that many of the people who talk about "still playing Morrowind to this day" are the same people pining for a game that "pushes the limits" of current technology. Morrowind was the first ES game I played, and there was a lot more "wonder" and "awe" when playing Morrowind. But I'm not sure that had to do with being a far superior game, or had to do with the "new-ness" that game brought. I had never played anything like it before and had an easier time overlooking the flaws. I enjoyed OB plenty, though the flaws were probably more pronounced. Overall, I'm not sure what to make of this statement, because once you peel away the leveling system and other prominent flaws from OB, it's a damn good game.

Have you? Are we not allowed to voice our concerns at all before release? Should we all wait patiently, expecting the best?

This is the first one who confirms that the game is like Oblivion, maybe others will follow. That won't change my mind, I'll buy the game and see myself. But this article opened a question mark because it's an independent voice, not the generic PR thing.
