PC Gamer June 2011! Demo Explained

You should try playing Morrowind or Arena oh i forgot you only play Oblivion on your console my bad , would be nice if you had any idea what Morrowind or any previous TES game was about

I do respect your opinion and tastes , you love to lvl up for nothing and have generic worthless repeating loot everywhere , and having every place looking the same , npcs talking about mudcrabs all the day , hehe well to each one his own, at the end the only think that matters is that you are happy with the game being Oblivion 1.5 :)

This is just my opinion of course

That was ridiculously uncalled for...(and mostly just gibberish...)

I like both Morrowind and Oblivion equally. Oblivion had bad level scaling, and Morrowind was merciless to new players. I should know that blank skill is important from the start, not later in the game. Sort of balances out.

As for story, I think Morrowind had better lore, story, and culture. But I think Oblivion had better characters, at least in the main story. I cared more about Martin, Jauffre, and Baurus since they all had personality and goals. Morrowind hardly had any of that unless you looked into deeper lore.

It's true that Oblivion missed some things from Morrowind, of course. But aren't you forgetting about ALL the improvements? NPCs talks about mudcrabs, yes... did they talk about something in Morrowind? I don't think so. Every place looking the same? LOLWUT? Seriously, next time you go from Anvil to Bruma have a look at the landscape... the variety of landscapes in Oblivion is something undeniable. There are no giant mushrooms, OK... and what?

Nicely said, but people usually refer to Morrowind as an aggregate entity made of good quality parts that have inner coherence when put together, while Oblivion is indeed better in some aspects (mostly technical, not artistic! which was completely normal because it's 4 years newer) but it lacks in the overall sense of world coherence.

Oblivion wasn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be on hardcoe fans forums.

Yes, because critics always provide an accurate basis on which to judge a video game's merit.

Oblivion kicked Morrowind's ass for a lot of reasons. That's not to say Morrowind didn't do some things better, but I'll be damned if it's so much better than Oblivion like people make it out to be.

Oh, as a person that played crap out of Morrowind I can say that yep, repetitive delivery quests EVERYWHERE and NPCs NOT TALKING AT ALL is wwway much better, let's have Morrowind 1.5

People, you are sick... Both of the games had flaws, and it looks like Skyrim heads to fix most of them, and you've heard not even that it is nothing like Morrowind, no, you hear there's probably less about it that's Morrowind, what is still one's IMHO. Exclude level scaling and few less significant flaws from OB, add some distinction in the world, and you will get a PERFECT game IMO, and a game very close to perfect objectively. Calm down and wait to see. I'm not saying Skyrim will be perfect, I'm saying it's too early to say the opposite

I'm going to quote the whole paragraph

'The result doesn't look unrecognisable from its predecessor, There's plenty that's Oblivion about Skyrim, and probably less about it that's Morrowind than some people will like, But mostly it looks like an exciting new world built by smart people who have listened to their audience.'

That's better :D

It's not really a Wonder of humanity as the people in here make it out to be. It's a good game, just like all the elder scrolls games are.

Yea he attacked me for no reason. I want to report him, but can't because I don't have the report button on the mobile version of the forums.

Seems that only you believe that , i don't want a Morrowind clone , ohh i get it you have some kind of power and can read all our mortal forum minds! omg

So happy to hear it will be more like Oblivion.

Anyways, I think the most truth can be found in this statement.

Maybe because people would like it to be exactly like Morrowind?

I did enjoy Morrowind more than OB, but I find it an interesting juxtaposition that many of the people who talk about "still playing Morrowind to this day" are the same people pining for a game that "pushes the limits" of current technology. Morrowind was the first ES game I played, and there was a lot more "wonder" and "awe" when playing Morrowind. But I'm not sure that had to do with being a far superior game, or had to do with the "new-ness" that game brought. I had never played anything like it before and had an easier time overlooking the flaws. I enjoyed OB plenty, though the flaws were probably more pronounced. Overall, I'm not sure what to make of this statement, because once you peel away the leveling system and other prominent flaws from OB, it's a damn good game.

In my book Morrowind kicks Oblivion's ass, although Oblivion did some things better. Its a matter of what particular things you appreciate more: story, culture, politics, character build (morrowind) or graphics, voices and physics (oblivion). I think a RPG benefits more from what Morrowind did better, while action and shooter games favorize what Oblivion did better.

At most you can say Morrowind had higher standards which is why it scored lower on average, but either way Oblivion is still a great game and the fact it scored higher than morrowind by the almost all of the same people who scored morrowind must mean something

This. People also let a lot of sentimentality ruin their opinions of latter games. They remember Morrowind fondly because of its flaws that made it really hard (and enjoyable) and because of the time they got hand cramp from playing so much. As good as Morrowind was atmosphere and storytelling-wise, Oblivion made a lot of improvements on combat etc. that made it much more playable and isn't anywhere near as bad as people are making it out to be...

That's also a very nieve point for that journalist to make as he will have only seen a small portion of the game (not storytelling or quests or guilds or cities for example), and we do not know what he is referring to so it would be wrong to get overly worried.

 you have to be some kind of Obtuse...extreme obtuse to think anyone who likes Morrowind want Skyrim to be EXACTLY like Morrowind or that Mushrooms are what Made Morrowind Special........

If you think people want a Carbon copy of Morrowind, then you don't understand what makes Morrowind Special, Oblivions combat, Voice acting graphics, all of that come with Time, its the concept and detail spent in the game that made it worthwhile Oblivion isn't a bad game, its just not what it could have been, alot of wasted potential on Graphics, the masses, and money.

and no one who screams at people who like Oblivion better even elaborate on -why- they like it beyond It was better than Morrowind in Combat and Graphics the only thing I give to Oblivion is side quests, and thats technological. and I keep asking, If Oblivion and Morrowind were made both released in 2002 exactly the same in tech no Voice acting, same graphics as morrowind and same Combat -which- would you pick up? and WHY

I'm with the camp that loves Morrowind and Oblivion for different reasons. Both great games, both have flaws. Sometimes I'm glad I have the good nature not to troll this place, because damn...you guys make it easy. Haha.

and Sorry, but Sir Drake, you sound silly. Get a hold of yourself man. You're making us all look bad. :spotted owl:

Hehe, that's a frequent tendency around here; I have seen more people with your same opinion. I suppose that it's because, as I see it, Oblivion has more to do with Daggerfall in some aspects than Morrowind. It's very normal to find Morrowind's fan that hate on Oblivion but love Shivering Isles because of the same reason.
