PC gamer playing Fallout 4 in isometric view, looks amazing

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 11:03 am

Wait, so BGS is often criticized for their unpolished games, made in 1st and 3rd person mode, a mode that they have been practicing (and supposedly mastering) since the 90's, and now they should learn to make isometric games as well? Yeah, that would be very wise of them, lol, especially the sales would boost to heaven, lmao.

I've been playing isometric crpgs forever and they were some of the best gaming experiences I ever had. Nox, Fallout, Arcanum, PoR, DD, BG, IWD, PST, NWN, ToEE, PoE blah blah blah. That said. I'll vote for "I don't care". I liked Bethesda's adaptation of fallout to the first person. Only thing I am sad about is its lack of RP elements. Don't make the mistake of connecting in your mind, the isometric characteristic and the quality of the game. Yes, isometric games are cheaper but that's no excuse for the drop in writing quality/rp elements.

You must be joking, or...

No, the isometric view should not be added in a Bethesda style rpg. I hope you realize these things must be integrated from pre-production, it's not just moving the camera angle up, right?

I would just like to be able to zoom out to that kind of viewing distance with the existing zoom tool, instead of being limited to barely being able to zoom out far enough to see your characters frickin' feet. When they come out with the mod that centers your character in the view and lets you zoom out to a good distance, i'm sooo onnit.

Yes of course I realize it's not just moving the camera angle up.

I programmed camera view points myself in a few video game engines and a video game.

The pics look nice, but that's where my "love" for isometric view ends. Zoomed out like this, I would feel way too removed from the action. I love 1st person view, because it feels like I'm actually part of this world, not just some 3rd party who controls a puppet... :)

Ah, nostalgia, the driving force behind Nintendo.

The game is simply not made for isometric 3D, I'd much rather the devs focus on patching important thing rather then a pointless feature that wouldn't properly work and that would be novel for al but 5 minutes.

I voted I don't care because if that's how someone wants to play it's fine by me. However, I wouldn't play from that view or even 3rd person for that matter. I will not even buy a game that doesn't offer 1st person view. It's sad really though that there are some games that look like pretty good games that only offer 3rd person view and that's something that I'll never understand. It couldn't be that hard to add a 1st person option and I don't get why developers don't include it.

When I play these games, I want to feel that I'm really in the game world doing things, and 3rd person just don't do that for me. I want to see what my eyes would actually see, not some silly floating camera angle from above and behind me.

And McDonalds is by far the most popular food in America.

Yet I don't want everyone to emulate McDonalds.

Bethesda's own interpretation of Fallout borrows heavily from Borderlands and Steam early access games like Rust, and of course from their flagship series, Elder Scrolls (hence the interchangable terms 'Fallout with swords' or 'Oblivion with guns'). Bethesda's interpretation of Fallout has been to copy other popular genres and games. They don't have any strict vision for Fallout other than to add in features they think is currently 'hot'. Hence voiced protagonist, a dialogue wheel, minecraft-y features etc.

Fallout 4 is an amalgamation of popular video games features, and you can be sure that if the latest hottest feature was isometric views, then Fallout 4 would have an isometric view as an option. Bethesda would follow the money to wherever it goes.

I suspect that a lot of people have a long list of wish-list items - yourself included - while Bethesda is pretty notorious for delivering on very, very few of them and then moving on to new things leaving a broken mess behind. If Bethesda's attention is going to be so short - and it will be - then everyone is in a "I hope they do [my item]!" and anything that falls outside of that is a "waste of resources while you could be working on [my item]." It's less "your idea svcks" and more "Bethesda will do 1% of what we're all asking for ...

This is exactly why I'm hoping Bethesda Game Studios supports Fallout 4 for 3 years with patches, DLC's, and Expansion Packs.

Bethesda Game Studios said themselves updates and DLC's will be based on community feedback and hopefully they fix as many bugs as they can for Fallout 4 and not leave them unfixed like they did ever since The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

I have been purchasing Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios developed and published video games since 2002 because of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in 2002 when I purchased it from GameStop and I saw the front cover and the back cover of the physical boxed PC version of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and then after installing and playing The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind I immediately feel in love with the video games that they developed, published, and sold.

Fallout 4 is one of their first video games I have not purchased yet sadly :(, so I really don't know what I'm missing.

I'm in the 'I don't care' camp.
I don't think the feature would take a vast amount of programming to implement, probably see some camera mod in the not too distant future.

However, having seen the stunning horizons on offer from the First person view I have to wonder why you would want to spend the game effectively looking at your own feet!
Not to mention how much of the game plays out within buildings and multilevel combat.

?It may be fun for taking some nostalgic screenshots, not sure I'd choose to play the game in that view. ??

The combat, graphics and animations are the best they've ever been. The exploration, well I gues its on par with other games (that is to say, its very good indeed).

The rest of the game.. well, it can often be very disappointing at times. Play Fallout 4 like Borderlands and you'll have a blast, but if you're expecting a deep rpg (or even 'medium' rpg) you're going to have a bad time. Fallout 4 is an arpg, its not an rpg.

I would much rather have patches to fix bugs and introduce new gameplay mechanics.

I'd rather they expand on what's already there, with new content and mechanics, rather than tack on a cheap isometric view that is going to require a lot of rebalancing and reprogramming to accommodate for it.

If it happens, it'll happen through the modding scene. People were experimenting with turn based combat back in the days of Fallout 3.. It could work together with an isometric viewpoint with a bit of refinement,

but the game isnt built to be played like that, it's never going be identical to the older fallouts.

Would I try it if it was made? Hell yeh I would, I love the old fallout games just as much as the newer ones.

Although I prefer FPP combat, I wouldn't be opposed to this being an option in the game. I would also probably do a few playthroughs with the isometric view, were it to be available.

I wonder if it would be possible to make it turn based or like Tactics as well.

People on these forums always cry for "options, options, options" but interestingly enough oppose those options this time...

In any case, it looks great. I prefer the FPP, but I would also love the option to play in Iso.

Yeah I find it interesting and highly suspicious.

In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim General Discussions section people always say people should always have options to play the way they want to play video games and yet here they voted no a lot more than having the option to play in a Isometric View.

No. Those resources should be extended so we can play it as a text based RPG. Added as a patch.

I have no idea if your joking, but in case you were being serious text based dialogue is ok, but I'm also fine with voiced NPC's.

To be even more serious Bethesda Game Studios should get rid of the dialogue wheel and the four choices in a patch for Fallout 4.

I always play computer role playing games in third-person. I started with the old Infinity engine games from Black Isle and Bioware, so the idea of an isometric Fallout 4 feels pretty natural to me. If an isometric POV were ever added to the game, I would definitely give it a try.

Until then, I have standard third-person to satisfy my role playing POV needs. :)

I don't understand why you'd want a crappy, half-ass "isometric view" added (which would svck, because the game, it's mechanics, and it's engine aren't meant for that).

Like multiplayer, this is the kind of thing that a game needs to be designed around, from the beginning, so that it's properly implemented. So you get a good isometric game, not some Frankensteinien kludge that happens to tickle your nostalgia bone, while delivering a sub-standard actual gaming experience.

No kidding.. It's currently the most endorsed mod on the nexus.

I'm sure most people can at least agree that having the entire text written would be a nice improvement compared to the summaries we get now.

The nostalgia thing is so overused and inaccurate. For me nostalgic would be Fallout 3 considering it was my first Fallout game and the least recently played.

Even for people who have played Fallout 1 or 2 first, I'm sure if they prefer that gameplay style it was one of their most recently played games.

It's not like people are sitting around dreaming about the good ole days.

Otherwise I agree that a game would need to be designed with it in mind, which at this point is far too late.

I see you ignore that I have programmed camera views in some video game engines and a video game, while in the video game it's not a Isometric View it is a filmitic cinematic type camera view like as if your watching a movie, but still able to play the video game.

Good luck finding a stimpack in that view...I can barely find some of the small things now when looking 1st person.

Did Hunter move in your pic or is my mind truly starting to slip away? :P
