PC gamer previews Crysis 2!

Post » Wed Nov 24, 2010 9:05 pm

Saw this on Crymod, so I thought I'd post it on here now. Anyways, my favourite quote:

Wheeee! The bit of Crysis 2’s collapsed New York that I’m playing in has a makeshift slide – about 20 feet of wet, sloping concrete. If I sprint at it and duck, I launch my nanosuited mega-soldier into a high-speed bumslide. Hence the wheee.

There’s an alien at the bottom, and he’s blocking my path. The bastard, no one gets in the way of my bumslide. I’m going to kick him. I tap left mouse as I near the alien’s lower body and boot his legs out from under him. Propelled by my strength-augmented shoes, he flies backwards, crumpling into a pile next to a wrecked bus. I should really go and make sure he’s dead, but instead I run back around to the top of the slide. I combo’d a bumslide. Wheee!

Bumslides ftw.

The last line sums it up perfectly, as it effectively says: Don't go in expecting a sequel to crysis, you'll be disappointed.

This...was disappointing to hear. Oh well.

But I do love how he compared the games singleplayer as well as its multiplayer to Halo. Marvelous.

Is it the exact same as it's predecessor?
A. No. Franchise is ruined.
B. Yes. Rehash.

Is it an evolution of it's predecessor?

A. Yes. it's a sequel.
B. No, effectively different game. Should be called something else.

Still, not complaining, i think crysis 2 will be fun. We'll always have crysis 1 in all it's glory, something console players will unfortunately never see, but ah well :)

Yeh, it is "effectively a different game" for changing the environment to a city.

I don't think it's a good idea to judge the level design from a written preview of one section of the game.

If you want to see a franchise that should have been called something else, take a look at Dragon Age 2. Crysis 2 is at least still the same genre.

How exactly is the suit simplified when all the suit powers from the original are still there. They're easier to access, due to the free-running/parkour focus they've been talking up, but I don't see how it's a bad thing. You still need to manage your suit energy.

The flying squids weren't fun to fight. These aliens look like the same jellies from the original, just in different armor. And more fun to fight. Maybe they'll explain it, we probably won't know till we play it.

They're ignoring the story because it, uhhh, svcked, and they want to give us a better one.

I'm agree :) To be honest i think crysis 2 will be more fun :D

It's just, as the reviewer said, very different from the original :) I will miss the beautiful vistas from the island, but it's not like they've aged anyway! Overall the game seems better, but it is definitely different :)

I don't see a problem here. They're improving on the original. Story wise, game-play wise, graphics wise and multi-player wise. What the hell's the problem?

I am really going to miss the tropical environments! You didn't really spend much time in a beautiful tropic environment or beach in Warhead and I was disappointed of that. But maybe without the environments, it'll run better? They could make the city look just as pretty, I'm going to miss the original though. "Crysis: The incredible PC exclusive"

That can't be made clear without a self-test. You need to check on your hopes. XD

Well, take into consideration that FC2 wasn't developed by Crytek. It was instead developed by Ubisoft Montreal, hence the change.

This however is different. It's a complete reboot, but there's still so much elements stuck from the original Crysis, into this game here.

And yes, mostly everyone didn't find the story to Crysis anything but generic, which is an overly used word nowadays. Since they hired an actual writer to this job, we may end up getting a better story driven sequel.

The editor though that the writer put Crysis 2 in too much of a bad light!
They weren't overwhelmingly positive enough at the brilliance which is Crysis 2.

Well, for one, he went too much into detail, to the point it was actually boring to read it. Also, there wasn't much actual journalism and yes, it was full of crap nobody wanted to hear. Too bad. I'm guessing the editors removed it to avoid being dumped by EA.
