Opinions? I haven't played it yet myself, but this review made me doubt I will. Don't want to go into specifics of the review, because the things covered in it would all be major spoilers for those who haven't done it yet.

Without spoilers, I'd give LR a 82. It was challenging, provided a fitting finale to the DLC storyline, provided a reason the area was so hard to fight through, didn't provide many overpowered weapons, showed why the NCR is having such a tough time in the Mojave, and made me seriously think about what faction I supported.

I could see someone being disappointed with the story. Ulysses provides just as many new questions as he does answers. I think it'll be a while before we can all say we understood his message.

But the gameplay? Wtf it was good. Very challenging, very memorable, very unique. The final fight of the DLC is also fun as hell, no matter how you go about it.

53? WTF is this crap? lol it deserves a far better score then '53', more like '77' or '72' but certainly not that low number. The story was great, yet it filled me with questions of 'why?' "how?" and whatnot, making us players desire more, and hopefully will see it in Fallout 4. combat was great, and environment was a nice touch, overall very decent. Red Glare was OP persay, but a very iconic weapon that many others would enjoy to use.

It's because of the hype. The more hyped the game/addon is the more disappointed fools you have.

That's the score for the average gamer. Honestly its up to you.

All good points. Guess you've persuaded me to go ahead and try it after all. Just goes to show, there's no accounting for taste, out there.

Keep in mind that the reviewers at PC Gamer are the same kind of gamer that wait breathlessly for yet another CoD rehash and treats each one as some revolutionary advance in gaming. Of course something like Lonesome Road won't score high, it requires more than a thirty second attention span.

i don't pay attention to reviews of bethesda games that aren't tied to this forum or fan sites. you want good reviews of bethesda games come here, if 60% pan a game or DLC, chances are you want like it. i based my decesion to buy FO3 on what people said about it here. i liked FO3 enough to buy FONV.

That isn't accurate. It's a brilliant DLC.

I have an idea buy the DLC and play it for yourself.

Y'know I read the review and thought about it, and I think I can explain WHY it got a bad score.


Reviewers review dozens of games a week. They pick one up, play it a couple hours, then write down their impressions. Done, next game.
I bet Lonesome Road got a horrible score because the reviewer hadn't been walking the New Vegas road. For a loyal player, the Lonesome Road fit perfectly because it was our last road. We wanted to go out with a bang, and Lonesome road fit that perfectly. It was heart-pounding, adrenaline pumping action where one missed shot or slow reactions meant you were dead. It was an end to things, and it was a final test to see how strong your character was. Final answers, final test, final everything. For the reviewer, I doubt he felt this sort of attachment. For him, it was just another FPS game. He didn't know the impact of the story for a New Vegas fan, or the hardship of the road itself. He hadn't been playing the game nonstop, so for him it was just another game he picked up, where he's left to assume (or forgot the other DLCs enough to think) the difficulty of the DLC is standard to the game.

Long story short, Lonesome road is special for a fan of New Vegas because it provides us with the LAST challenge. It's truly a test to see how far we've come and it answers all the final questions we have. It appeases the fans of New Vegas, but for someone new to the game or not super into it? Of course it'd be disappointing for them: they don't care about the DLC testing their skill, nor are they caught up in the story with Ulysses enough to be super-involved with the story. That's why this guy probably gave it an abysmal score.

as a stand alone dlc...it wasn't that great, it was a linear path in an open world game. I'd rate it higher than a 50 though, probably a 70ish. It did add some cool armors and some decent guns. If you cared about the dlc story of Ulysses then it is worth the money, Id give it a third place out of the four dlcs

Pros:
- Awesome setting to explore, I really liked the Divide
- Lots of cool new weapons and loot
- Plenty of challenge
- Interesting in terms of backstory

Cons:
- Ulysses can be infuriating with his nonsensical ranting
- Pretty linear, unlike HH and OWB

I liked it, and would give it an 8 out of 10. I think you should get it, and I think PC Gamer picked the wrong reviewer here.

Pretty much this. After all, the same magazine gave Honest Hearts a 66 score. While I liked HH a lot, I felt that Lonesome Road was much better.

Personally, I loved Lonesome Road and can't wait to do it all again. Just need to start a new character...

Ulysses is now one of my favourite characters, he's someone that actually understands that all of the sides vying to own the Mojave have their own special brand of corruption. It was a very philosophical DLC and definitely deserves far more then the 30 second attention span that PC Gamer seems to have.
