PC gamer what features would you like most

Post » Fri Sep 23, 2011 10:56 am

Personally i would go with a 64bit exe that way modders can do even more crazy things, and we can load parts of the game faster, less crashes ect ect ect. Seeing as the majority of pc gamers (according to steam which is a pretty good poll) are >4gb's of ram. Hell i have 6gb's of Vram lawls...32bit games...so last decade.

Also ram is extremely cheap and i'm thinking the majority of pc gamers years from now will appreciate this game having a 64bit exe more than anything else, primarily because of mods.

The problem with DX11 is your still limited on how much you can do since your still using a 32bit exe.

Correct me if i'm wrong but it means you can only use 4gb's of ram either vram or standard ram; so 2gb vram 2gb ram. With a 64 bit exe mods shall be unlimited in their scope, loading times will be fast as all hell, texture packs shall be humungous.

Gotta say 64-bit exe is at the top of the list, although full DX11 support is a close second. I need more RAM available for the mods, Bethesda!

EDIT: By the way, does anyone know exactly how hard it would be for the community to create a 64-bit exe?

I don't think it is legal to make a 64bit .exe. Modders don't work for Bethesda or have permission to mod that part of the game.

I am pretty sure the last Steam survey showed only 5% of their customers use a Dx11 capable GPU. That makes me think it would be a waste to invest heavily in using that feature, but including support for their inclusion by modders/DLC would be nice.

A lot of people don't realize that most motherboards are not designed to utilize 64-bit software. Only within the past few years have models been widely produced, but it won't be long until there is absolutely no reason to make a 32-bit game.

The problem is not so much the amount of memory but how the program uses and frees it. There are tons of DX11 games that are all 32-bit, so that's not the limiting factor.

Anyways, I'd like both DX11 and 64-bit. That way we could mix Tessellation (which would manage the complexity of models according to the distance of the player) with Geometry Instancing and some procedural operations (which would clone models with little work for the GPU, but still adding several variations to all of them) to *finally* create some nice massive battles with REALLY hundreds or even thousands of warriors per side :D

To achieve this, without having the original source code of the executable, it would be necessary to reverse engineer, and probably this is not allowed without the permission of Bethesda. Anyone who can crack a game can do that.

It will most likely have to happen regardless of if bethesda wants it or not. this is my system.

2x evga hydro 580gtx 3gb
i7-970 @ 4.1mhz
rampage 3
12gb's ddr3 2113mhz
2x 600gb 10,000 rpm hdd's

Oblivion lags because of the fact the game can't work with the extra ram that i have. ( i have lots of mods...lots...of mods)

How hard would it be to make a 64bit exe if you had access to the source code.

Make sure it's 3D friendly is top of my list. I think game will be support positional audio right? so those 5.1 systems can be used. Dx11 features could be nice and 64bit for sure :)

A 64-bit exe is far more useful to me. I'm sure with a few graphic mods my GPU will be wishing for a quick death as it is lol

Voted: DX11 features

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uavLefzDuQ and Skyrim deserves to have it. An x64 .exe would be nice, but one can always flip the LAA flag. Both would be fantastic, but tessellation is more important to me. Thankfully, the possibility of either isn't mutually exclusive, so here's hoping we get both.

I don't particularly have any strong feelings about any of those.
(And yeah... just built my first gaming PC.)

.....

Any particular reason, beyond "I have way too much $$$", that you built such a stupendously overpowered machine? Seriously, holy crap that thing's insane.
(or is it a future-proofing thing, to make sure you'll be able to blow the doors off Crysis 4 and not have to upgrade until 2018?)

My rent is $300 a month and i get lots of money for school ( monthly living stipends aka vet benefits around $600 per month) on top of working a part time IT job that pays $20 per hour. So i have lots of monies to burn; i should add i also have 3x 30" 2560x1600p monitors. Thats after i put 1/2 my paycheck into the markets.

protip in life: put monies into the market/bonds.

Economy is up: put it in commodities
economy is down: sell commodities buy retailer stocks, bonds, property
economy goes back up: sell retailer stocks & property (unless renting)
and repeat.

oh and when the economy begins a massive tanking decline (ie 2008) SHORT SELL EVERYTHING.

I want a PC game that takes advantages of a PC. If I could vote everything I would but the most important thing was a 64bit exe. I like using RAM.

If I had to choose one, it would be taking full advantage of dx11. A 64 bit exe would be nice as well, but honestly, the game was designed to function on 6 year old hardware. I doubt you will get much of a performance boost by utilizing more than 2gb of memory nor any other benefits of longer bit instructions.

The game would have to be almost fully rewritten to see some of the really cool stuff that a 64 bit executable could do.

I voted for DX11.

However, far more important is FoV and a PC quality inventory system. (both doable, and will be mods, so ... yeah)

DX11.

Voted 64bit EXE.

By getting rid of the 4Gb RAM cap, you open up A LOT of new possibilities, simply due to the game being able to load so much more into memory at once.

Doesn't tessellation look ugly if you just applied it to any model ? I don't think the feature of tessellation is simple as flipping a switch; something similar to displacement, you need artists to create displacement maps for everything to really get the effect everyone is thinking about.

And I seriously doubt beth has modeled high resolution meshes for that kind of thing.

Really want a 64bit bin personally. Its like, in a way, artificially leashing modders to inferior hardware.

I voted 64bit because every modern games should have option for 64-bit .exe. The future is here why hold back?
