Gamereactor shows 6 screens

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:56 am

I have to say, while the exterior and especially plants look unimpressive, the interior is amazing. :)

Yeah, I'll agree with that. I'm surprised by how much worse the outdoor pictures looked at full resolution, rather than when they were shrunken down.

I hate being pessimistic but...

On http://www.gamereactor.se/media/59/elderscrolls5_235967b.jpg, is it just me or does the water look ... unnatural and flat? Also looks like there's zero anti-aliasing (could be because of it being on consoles...?), some plants being very low-res, and grass doesn't seem to blend too well with the enironment. On a good side, the waterfall and the rocks with moss and roots on them looks very nice.

And on http://www.gamereactor.se/media/59/elderscrolls5_235970b.jpg, do someone else than me think that the stone-floor at the bottom looks very very flat? Otherwise the interior pic looks great.

In the one with all the NPCs in it, did anyone else notice the elf on the left? Wood elf or High elf?

Yeah I believe they're not all brand new. I haven't been able to find the stealth execution and the Hall of Stories ones though however (had to use gameinformer scans I'm afraid) but it sounds they were in gameinformer. At least the 'hall of stories and puzzle' element is new?

The page 31 is from the gameinformer introduction. They had text, colour effect and a scroll I believe over the screenshot which made it hard to see. In OXM it is clear ingame shot.

Uh... they can give info to more than one country if they like. We have gotten info different in each magazine, whether you think it's possible or not, and also different screenshots in some.

Like the above said they were basicly the same images from GI right?
Please do show me some of these "new" screenshots everyone keeps telling me about, I have seen the GI issue so those ones are old in a way already but I have not SEEN any new screens, would love to tho

http://www.gamereactor.se/media/59/elderscrolls5_235970b.jpg At the very bottom in the middle. You see a stone-floor-texture. Looks very flat and unrealistic in my opinion.

Else, the interiors look astounding.
Love the candle design :D

Hmm after looking at it a bit, the graphics seem rather... Unimpressive.
Not like I care, just saying...

Yeah the waterfall for example, but http://www.gamereactor.se/media/59/elderscrolls5_235970b.jpg

Are you guys kidding? These are great! Sure, they aren't shiny or flashy, but they're certainly unique and they have a lot of substance to them. From an artists point of view, they show a clear devotion to emotion and detail. The characters faces are not only "realistic", but they really provide some life to RPG characters that I've never really seen before (which the exception of Mass Effect). The only thing that I don't like about them is the usual picky details: the waterfalls are a bit too organic, I'm noticing some clipping, and the hair isn't as expressive as I expected.

Regardless, this is exactly what I expected from Skyrim. We're getting far better graphics than Oblivion and Fallout, we're seeing more detail in characters and environments, and there's definitely a more artistic approach to the game (looking at the weather, the costume designs, etc).

It's nice to see games like Mass Effect (which does a phenomenal job with it's main characters), the Witcher (speaks for itself), and now Skyrim really try to personify characters and landscapes. It's official: 2011 is the year of the RPG.

EDIT: And I have to mention, we still have a good 8 months before this game comes out. What we're seeing is a game still in significant development. Just imagine what the game is going to look like in November

I'm impressed, looking good! I can't wait to run through that forest, and hang out in that tavern.

I'm getting more and more hyped! :)

IMHO I wouldn't worry about the stone floor since we can only see a TAD bit of it, who knows it may look alot better if we got to see more in the picture

Heh, I noticed that too, and agree with you. I was mostly referring to the rather distracting NPC in the foreground. ;)

The shadows are nice, though.

Thanks for posting these. It is nice to have higher-rez versions of what was in Game Informer. I just wish someone would post a copy of what seems to be the only unique screenshot from the Dutch magazine.

I assume you mean the dragon o the pillar with the mountains/forest in the backround, in was in GI but had all this none sense framing the pic, thus obscuring the best part, the mountains with forests. This is the closest I think any thing has come to being a new pic.

In the Dutch magazine there is a screenshot of three Ice Wraiths, but it's different from the GI one.

Beth still has to learn about effective usage of normal maps, that's for sure.
Water though, that mostly looks stupid when you don't see it moving. Screenshots just don't do it justice. Look at pics of the water in Crysis, does not look much different from that in Oblivion. But in motion, oh boy!

If only there was some technology that could fix this problem and make it appear realistic!

Oh right, tessellation.

I totally agree about her hair, but you have to admit...she's fine :hubbahubba:

Kinda svcks though that we haven't seen any beards yet...I mean we see a bit http://www.gamereactor.se/media/59/elderscrolls5_235970b.jpg with the bartender but it isn't Viking-level.

I don't think it looks flat, I'm quite impressed. From the sounds of it though, it'll look way better in motion :). Looking forward to gameplay videos.

That if it uses DX11. If the game uses DX10, then parallax occlusion mapping.

Well I think the water looks a bit unnatural concerning lighting and reflections, and its "shallowness". It should be a lot more shallow-looking near the shores.

They're pretty low resolution high resolution screenshots, the textures look pretty muddy, I've seen better water reflections than those in Oblivion, and that waterfall effect is pretty so-so. On the whole, though, those are rather pretty screenshots.

That second one implies cloth physics, or at least better cloth animations, though. Awesome <3

Overall, though, it looks like Oblivion with shadows. Disappointing, really, but I'll reserve judgement until I see some PC builds.

How do we know the water isn't shallow in that part in the game tho? I know there is the waterfall but it doesn't mean the water could be leaving the little pool onto the ground that we just can't see, cuz if nothing is absorbing the water enough of blocking the path thats what could happen
