"GN: Will the PC version support DirectX 11?

Todd Howard: Yes, but I guess the real question here is do we take advantage of DX11's big new features and the answer is 'not specifically'. Our graphics work centers around doing things that will look the same regardless of platform, and sometimes that implementation will be different on the 360, PS3, and PC. "

Well, atleast it will support it, so I guess modders can take advantage of it if bethesda feel they dont want to... which I personally think is a bit stupid because they'd win the PC gamers loyality big time if they did!

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I think we'll still need a graphics extender to try and add dx11 features. As far as I remember the previous construction sets didn't really give any control or access to the actual code that handles graphics. Still good news though.

Well that's the confirmation I was waiting for before planning a video card upgrade. Time to go shopping!

The big new feature that's most likely not being supported is probably tessellation. The big question, then, is tessellation supported in the engine and just not utilized by the art team? If it is, then modders can pick up the slack. If it's not, it will require some major work to get it into the game.

That makes it a rather bitter-sweet announcement for me.

Excellent. As per usual, we can mod the game to do it right - but bethesda's continuing diligence in giving us the tools to be able to do that put them head and shoulders above other developers.

Dx11 has more features than just tess. It includes optimizations too if im not mistaken which could give a performance boost for PCer's

Doesn't mean anything. Support means it runs on DX11 Hardware and with DX installed. It most certainly won't use any DX11 features like Tesselation or even DX10 features. And it doesn't have to to look great. Just look at Crysis in DX9 mode, it looks awesome!

Yeah, I know. I was basing my comment off Todd's comment that they're keeping all three versions looking similar. That probably means they're not taking advantage of the features that affect the graphics.

Ah gotcha, yeah that is a good question you brought up. W/e they give us though is better than nothing at all, so I'll take what I can get and be satisfied that they confirmed it :D

I have no shame in admitting I like graphics to look as nice as they can. I also like good gameplay, who doesnt? Just cause I want cake doesnt mean I dont want to eat it... or... I have cake... cant eat... something.. You get the point, there is no reason not to want the best of both.

Yeah, who cares about a free performance boost, future scalability, and greater modding potential?
