PC gamers in the backseat again.

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 8:01 am

Thank you Bethesda for what could be an awesome game.

A game that unfortunately has left the PC gamer out in the cold AGAIN.

Locked keymapping???? Really!!!!!!

Consoles are killing the AAA games with their limitations and a game developed for console will never ever have the quality that a game developed for PC will ever have.

I do not want to use WASD keys I want to use the arrow keys and the numpad. Please fix this and allow me to remap the way I want to play my game.

If I wanted to use a lame console pad I would not have spent a fortune on a high end PC.

Get with the times not everyone wants to play on a keyboard and mouse in 2015.

The only thing that has changed with the times is that instead of having a dedicated joystick port, controllers use USB. But controllers have been around a very long time...and then, like now, there are still a lot of people that prefer to use a keyboard and mouse. In fact, I would say that very few people would chose a controller over keyboard and mouse in a shooter, which Fallout 4 definately has a lot in common with and could even be placed in that category.

This isn't a multiplayer game, you don't really need fast reflexes like other PC games. Controller is absolutely fine in this, especially as it uses VATS.

You don't get it, do you? This is a feature they shipped broken. Literally, being able to play with mouse and keyboard and re-bind your controls is a feature that is in the game (and rightfully so, as if it didn't have it many people would not be able to play at all), and it does not work properly. It's not a matter of whether or not playing with a controller is "fine".

Will they? They never did for Fallout 3 or Skyrim; it took fan mods to fix it.

If you're happy with your controller, this thread is not for you.

Keymapping should definitely be unlocked in a patch, it's horrendous. Especially being left handed =/

The worst is crafting, I'm back and forth on the keyboard between A, E, R, Tab and Enter. Super annoying.

Eh, I've used various console controllers for a couple decades now. And I'd much rather play FPS on a mouse & keyboard. Can't hit the broad side of a barn with a controller.

------

On the main topic.... I suppose I'm lucky. I've been playing FPS's using WASD-setups for decades as well. So I've never really needed to change the mapping on Beth games. (Only thing I changed in FO4 was to make the pip-boy hotkeys similar to FO3 - F1/F2/F3/F4 for stats/inventory/data/map. And moved quicksave over to F6 so that it wasn't next to F4.) Honestly, I rarely change the default controls on any PC game, except some of the "action bar" shortcuts on MMOs.

Get with the times. Lots of people play using lots of different input mechanisms, so games need to be shipped with proper support for all of them (you know, like developers have been doing for decades).

I actually prefer a gamepad for games like this, even though I've been playing pc games most of my life. I think it's partially because my hands are pretty small; makes reaching up to the function keys and a few others in a timely manner next to impossible. Guess I'm just the odd one out. For games that I do use the m&k for (moba's, mmo's, rts, etc.) I also rarely change the default controls, though. I prefer to use my left hand for a lot of things, though, so I can definitely see how it could be frustrating for people who are left handed. Luckily I'm ambidextrous so I just kind of got used to the default of having the mouse on the right, but that's got to be a lot harder for people who are completely left handed.

There is a mod (sort of), using auto-hotkey to reconfigure the hotkeys.

I'm sorry me playing on console is ruining your experience? I understand your problem but saying consoles is killing gaming is absurd.

Adding onto my previous not for gamepads argument I got just two words.

Thumb. Cramp. I can K&M for eternity, but a few hours on a gamepad and my thumbs get sore. And no, "play less" is not a valid argument to counter that because I'm a 24/7 gamer. I'm not changing how I am. Nor am I or should anyone else be forced to change the amount of time they play or what devices they use to play games.

I actually have my Xbox One controller hooked to my PC and I've been using that. It lets me play on my big screen tv and relax on my bed.

The UI stinks for KB & M and will be fixed by a mod, but it's too bad they don't have enough employees to develop a separate PC UI.

The problem isn't people playing on consoles. The problem is developers arbitrarily making the choice to neglect the PC platform. "Well, modders will fix it" is very much a cop out.

They don't need to develop separate UI for PC. They need to develop an UI which is fluent and efficient to use regardless of control method.

It has everything to do with consoles, because developers are designing their games purely with console gaming in mind.

No but my money is just as good as yours and I want to play on PC.

Consoles svck, in my opinion.

PC with mouse and keyboard gives the player much more control and many many more possible keys to use.

Consoles are for the brain-dead.

The problem IMO is left handed people that use a mouse in the left hand are lazy.

I'm lefty and use WASD w/ right handed mouse. I had to switch from arrows rh mouse as it was just [censored].

Took a whole couple hours for muscle memory to kick in.

That's completely false, I played Fallout 3 on keyboard/mouse in 2008. I had absolutely no problems.
