PC Gamers - What's Your Ideal FPS?

Post » Fri Oct 07, 2011 11:27 am

How well do you want/expect skyrim to run on PC? What's your 'bad FPS' number? I start noticing bad framerates if FPS goes down below 25 FPS.

My Rig :

Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.5Ghz
Nvidia Gainward 460GTX 768mb
4GB DDR2 Ram

Expectations :

30+ FPS on 1680x1050 Highish settings.

anything 30+ is great for me. my old eye's don't really see much difference past that except for how 'smooth' the experience is. below 30 and i definitely notice slideshow/stuttering.

I like having games run at 60+ FPS as standard, I can live with down to 40 FPS though, below that and the experience gets worse and worse for me.

My three magic numbers are 60 30 20. I'm hoping for 60, I'm fine with 30 and everything below 20 is bad for me.

30 does it for me. I do like the old 80 on CS:S though...

I'm pretty generous when it comes to what's acceptable. I'll be playing a game for a long time before realizing it's running at 15-20 FPS.

I don't think I'll have any issues with Skyrim because it's designed with ancient hardware in mind. Once mods start coming out I might upgrade.

Phenom II x4 2,8
4 GB RAM
GTX 560 Ti SuperOverclocked.

Same res and detail as the op. If I get more than 30 fps, I'm already happy. But I'm hoping steady 40 or so.

With the state of the art rig I just built it should have no problem running at 60fps with max settings.

I expect ~50-60FPS, as that is what most other games run at on my system. Depending on how optimized it is. Maxed everything at 1920x1080. My mentality is, if I cant max a game, time to upgrade.

System in sig.

Always on in all games, via Nvidia drivers. I REALLY hate screen flickers, and I don't mind being capped at 60 fps.

I don't really notice any change above 30 fps, so I think I'll be fine.

Tell me about it, if it wasn't for D3DOverrider I wouldn't ever have played Risen, the tearing is so bad it hurts the eye.

60 fps with V-Sync. Screen tearing makes me dizzy. I un-installed RAGE because the screen tearing is so bad. Can't believe id didn't do testability on their PC (PC!!!!!) (Fing PC!) version.

My biggest problem with Oblivion was the wilderness loading and how it stuttered. RAMdisks eliminated that for the most part. If I had ~$4000 extra laying around I would try running a dedicated RAMdisk server where some games would be installed on the RAM.

64GB of RAM
2x 10Gigabit NICs (one in the server and one in my gaming PC)
Decent CPU (doesnt need to be that fast)

Considering that "cinema" (the "big screen" movies) run at 25 fps, anything at 30+ ("standard definition" interlaced TV rate) is great. I've noticed "flicker" in a few programs at around 25, but by 30 it's not an issue.
