Hey everyone, well the good news is I made it through Dead Money: Hallelujah!!!!! The bad news is, as soon as got back to the main land/mojove I fast traveled to Chet's store in Goodsprings to sell some stuff when suddenly my screen froze/game crashed. I had to power down manually as this is the only way to end the frozen game. So after I powered down let the pc cool about 30 minutes, I booted up again. Loaded Steam/Fallout New Vegas/went to my Auto Save and the little preview picture showed me still in Chet's store so I loaded it it started loading all the dlc junk, gun runners, etc. Well I looked in my pip boy, and I was reset to level one...wtf?

Ok please spare me all of the you should have save this and you should haved saved that. I just want to know why you think this happened. In all of my FO3 and FNV it's never done that. Has anyone ever had this happen to them?

Well, it is a corrupted save. How it happened is the game locked up at cell load at Chet's. Why it happened is you have the Autosave Features turned on and it was saving as the cell loaded. Turn those off, all of them. Creating a save right at cell load is the worst time anyway, but if a cell load is going to cause a crash (which can happen) it will corrupt your save just about every time if it is trying to save when it happens. Autosaves are prone to corruption because they are written over so many times, another reason to turn off the features.

So, create a series of manual save slots and cycle through them. This way you can go back to an earlier save if you have to. Get in the habit of saving before you travel somewhere or enter a cell if you want a save point. Saving in the middle of cell or after the first minute or so once the cell has fully rendered and the scripts rev up is OK. But not as soon as you enter it.

Thanks CCNA................I'll tweak it a bit and see if I can improve the saving process. It's just that so many game give you a long list of saves in their save file, even in the game, like many games I could go back 15 saves to a certain time and date and you could go from there. Oh well. I used to use the "safe save" method back in Fallout 3 and keep my stuff very secure. I just got lazy on FNV because I didn't know if I like the game or not....but now I do, so I guess it's time for me to relearn how to save safely. Thanks again.

It really svcked when it happened in FO3, I started back at the Vault 101 entrance, I had no quests, at level 1, and I have all the experience points of my character, so I could not even have leveled up (I was at the max at the time).

I wonder if Chet's is the 0 cell............

I know CCNA already helped you with your main issue, but I should point out that there are better/easier ways to quit out of a frozen game. (I'm assuming you have a computer that uses Windows 7 as its operating system.) Hold down Ctrl+Alt+Delete in order to force quit. This will bring up a new screen that has the option "start task manager." Click that and then click "Fallout: New Vegas" once in the task manager (it should say "not responding" if the game is frozen.). Then click "end task," and it will quit out of the frozen game. That's the easiest way to quit out of a program that isn't responding. You can also open the Task Manager by holding down Ctrl+Shift+Esc, but I'm not sure if that will work if the game is frozen.

Dude I've been building and repairing PCs for 18 years, and many of those are gaming rigs........so I know how to get to the task manager and execute commands. And your assumption would be incorrect. On this particular pc I'm using Windows XP. Many times a computer freezes and that's just it: it's frozen and you aren't going to get it unfrozen without a reboot.

@CCNA I ran into a little bit of luck, but first let me tell you this: you know the Auto Save I spoke of that shows a picture in the small preview window - It shows level 25 clear as day, but if I load it brings up level 1, just a guy standing in his underwear in the street of Goodsprings, you don't even get the standard beginning where Benny shoots you, or your time with Doc. Weird ...go figure.

My luck is this: I checked back on my Quick Save and my last one was in the vault by the gold, so I was able to just redo my steps and get the heck out of the Sierra Madre. w00t!

This game has never caused a situation where I had to reboot my computer, but then again, I'm using Windows 7, so yeah.

Also congratulations on finishing Dead Money. What were your final thoughts? Did you end up enjoying it overall?
