I have to say that I'm not looking forward to my first encounter with a sabre tooth tiger. I mean, mountain lions were bad enough.

Same here...

The first mountain lion I encountered swiftly ripped me to shreds.

Personally, I'm looking forward towards more varieties of natural wildlife to fill the terrain. Monsters are cool and all, but without deers and such, the world looks dead.

I can't wait to fight my first Volkihar or my first giant! And, of course, I'm looking forward to kill a dragon.

I'm tempted to say OP can't count after reading the first post but I think you're just biased and everytime someone suggests you're wrong by providing examples you just pull the "but that's not a monster!" card. So I'll just pull the "but that IS a monster" card and call it even. You could always not buy the games, y'know.

I honestly think there are quite a few monsters/creatures already in the game. Plus many variants of each usually.
I mean, more is good yeah, but it's not like there is a drought of good creatures to kill in the TES series. IMO, that is.

I somewhat agree with the OP, as far as the lack of big, classical fantasy monsters is concerned.

However, I think Skyrim's already got Morrowind and Oblivion beat in that regard. Partly because Skyrim's "animal" type creatures are more like classical fantasy monsters than Oblivion's, and more recognisable and imposing than Morrowind's. From memory, confirmed creatures are:

Dragons
Giants
Trolls
Ice Trolls
Giant Spiders
Mammoths
Sabretooth Tigers
Bears(?)
Wolves (much more primal, fierce-looking than Oblivion's)
Ice Wraiths
Draugr
Wraith/Vampire (hopefully the latter)
Spriggan(?)

If you count bears and the "prehistoric" creatures as monsters, that's a pretty good list already. And we can safely assume (I hope) that there are more that have yet to be mentioned or shown.

I voted "who cares", as personally I'm more interested in humanoid enemies, and fighting with weapons. I also hate spiders, so not happy about that. (Maybe I should just become a wizard and kill them with fire from a safe distance, eh? [censored] spiders. They can all burn as far as I'm concerned :flamethrower: )

They're adding up new animals. I mean NEW, never seen before: Ice wraiths, mammoths, dragons and perhaps ghouls. They're doing fine from my viewpoint.

Trolls, Deers, Ogres, Wolfs (2), Bears, Mountainlions, Conjuers, Necromancers, Goblins, Highwaymen, Marauders, Ghosts, Wraiths, Skeletons, Litches, Dremora, And all the weardoes that came with shivering isles.

So i think theres pretty much of monsters.... And almost all that i listed up above Have 2-4 diffrent types of forms for example: Faded wraith, Wraith and Gloomy wraiths. OR: Ghost, Ancient ghost etc.

Edit. Came up with more: Spriggans, Minotaurs, Unicorns that farts rainbows...

The more the merrier, but for us PC users there are always more options. :hubbahubba:

Yeah, every person in Cyrodiil was a monster....devoid of life and emotion and a butt-ugly face to boot. :sadvaultboy:

I loved the creatures in Shivering Isles, and what I've seen of Morrowind.

But im realy disapointed to hear we get the same generic trollls, goblins, bears, wolves that were in Oblivion.

Of all teh creatures in Oblivion, i hated Bears the most. Theyre big, powerful, can kick ur ass at low levels, and about as boring as you can get.

I think Oblivion exacerbates the problem by limiting the enemies you encounter based on your level. ie you don't see stronger enemies until you get to a higher level and when you get there the lower level monsters are no longer seen.

This makes the world appear to have a very limited variety of creatures.

Small rant by me
:swear:
Only a few amounts of info on Skyrim has hit the internet, the big lack and flaws in ES games are the small amount and variation of Creatures/Monsters. You guys only put like 4 to 5 different creatures in your ES games, yes you have undead and typical animals, but the lack of monsters is sad and pure lazyness. I hope Skyrim has alot of monsters, all that I saw in my GI issue were Frost Trolls, Ice Wraiths, Mountain Giants, and Spiders. Kinda sad to be honest. Morrowinds monsters were all the same and looked like small T-rexes with down syndrome. Oblivion had Ogres, Trolls, Land Dreaghs, Minotuars, spriggans, Willo's, and wait thats it. You make a huge world with lots of quest and NPC's put only a hand full of monsters to kill and discover. TWO WORLDS 2 beats ES with its amount of creatures, it had like 25+ monsters not counting undead and generic animals. :banghead:

NOTE: I'm the type of player who loves to explore and kill creatures and discover new things.

Sorry but I wouldn`t use TW2 to compare against..I found that game so tedious and wasted my money on it. Fill large mostly empty Savanah with occasional extremely annoying baboons, giant ants, rhinos etc. Stick in some Varns and Groms..later add some Vidon/Scapulai/Tailers etc. mash your mouse buttons in endless similar combat...look around in wonder at the empty land that only respawns undead in the Swallows or the same animals in the Savannah..
TW2 dosen`t even make it worth exploring because the loot rewards are so pathetic and most of the dungeons need to be unlocked with the relevant quest...Agh, don`t get me started on that piece of garbage. At least TW1 had lootable human bandits to encounter..

We don`t even know what exactly is going to be in Skyrim yet, so why the rant... and at least Skyrim will have human raiders etc. which is saying a lot more for *cough* TW2..

Agree with this part. I'm sure they've figured out something better.. or at least learned their lesson with the level scaling. It just didn't work properly. It probably sounded great in meetings and then it was too late to do anything about after it was implemented.

I think variation of monsters should be essential, and i dont just mean frost, fire, etc. I want to see deformities or mutations, something that isnt subtle. For example; I walk into a dungeon and "ZOMG WTF IS THAT. Oh its a rat". To be honest I cant imagine how this could be done...but in one of the LOTR films with the talking, walking trees, those trees where all a LOT different in appearance, but clearly still the same species..I think that would be cool.

You'd better believe it. :D

Another topic based on lack of information? We have no idea of how many and what type of creatures are in the game, until either the game is released or until we get a full list this is just another "stir the pot" topic.

I always had the impression that TES had fewer creatures than other games.

Do mean lack of monster-count in spawn points? Or do you mean lack of monster variation?

I actually think that TES needs more monsters in both spawn points and variation.

I think the game needs more fictional non-aggressive critters. I want something else to hunt but deers.

I wouldn't mind an occasional run-in with a larger group of creatures. A wolf pack, a goblin war party, a rebel or pro-Imperial patrol, a bandit gang. Could make for a hell of a fight. Too many of the fights in these games are one-on-one, and too easy. I would like to see more. More spawn points too. Bring it on. :toughninja:

To me, having only a few is fine. What I'd like to see is more diversity within those, different textures, different meshes maybe. For example, you could have a starving wolf, a regular wolf, an old scarred wolf, different fur colors, etc. There could be plenty of different outfits (if anything) for giants, goblins, etc.

Thats a good point..I think some kind of random generating mechanic could be good.

A different variety in each creature. Some trolls could be bigger, fatter etc than others. The human bandits could use the same kind of generating ability that will be used for NPC`s..i.e short/tall/fat/thin etc. So if there isn`t a large number of different creatures/humanoids, then at least we could see a good variety in the ones that are in game. Minotaurs could have different coloured fur etc.
