Games on Steam

Post » Fri Feb 28, 2014 12:31 am

Tomorrow I am Buying Morrowind and Oblivion. I also want to buy more games so I have more than just TES on my PC.

RPGs are what I am mainly looking to buy but other types of games would be good.

I would like suggestions for games to buy.

Have you given Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas a go?

I have played both on Xbox.

I think Fallout 3 is ok. I don't like New Vegas.

For RPG, I hear good things about Dragon Age (Not the second though), and Kingdoms of Amalur. There are other RPGs so give the Steam store a good browse. Both of those games I haven't played, however. Kingdoms of Amalur has Ken Rolston as the lead visionary, he was the lead designer for Oblivion.

As for other games, definitely check out Dishonored, Portal (one and two), and Team Fortress 2.

I've tried Dishonored on xbox and I didn't like it.

Portal doesn't interest me at all.

I played Team Fortress 2 a few years ago and it was alright. I'm not much of a fan of shooters or free to play games.

Obligatory one-liner post that isn't helpful:

Baldur's Gate 2.

Besides TES and Fallout games, I'd recommend (from most recommended to least recommended):

Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition

Fable: The Lost Chapters

Mass Effect 1 & 2 (3 is not available on Steam)

Alpha Protocol

Balder's Gate (HD remakes)

Sudeki

Jade Empire

If I can think of anymore I'll let you know.

EDIT: Dark Souls (thanks tgl1992)

Dark Souls is another one you could try, but a controller is STRONGLY recommended.

love that game. Don't know if it's worth buying for PC though.

I might get it because I'm never playing on my xbox again.

I played Fable the lost chapaters a couple month ago on my xbox.

Mass Effect is on offer so I'll get that. been wanting to try the Mass Effect games for ages.

Dragon Age... I don't know...

Balder's gate... I don't know...

If you plan on replaying Oblivion on PC (I assume you've played Oblivion on console based on some post you've made), then I'd recommend getting Fallout 3 on PC as well. Mods can always make any game you've played already or sometimes a game you hate entertaining.

Do you like Diablo styled games? Path of Exile is a free game on Steam and plays a lot like it, as well as the Torchlight games. There are also some older RPG games (if you're into them in particularly) you can get like the Fallout games, and mentioned already, Baldur's Gate. They're usually really cheap on sale. There is also The Witcher, Mass Effect, and Deus Ex games but I'm not sure if you would be interested in playing as a set character (not necessarily Mass Effect though, but you're still referred to as Commander Shepard).

Both The Witcher games, Deus Ex, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, KotOR 1 and 2 and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines should keep you busy for a while.

Yes I have played Oblivion. I love the game but I find it hard to Roleplay so maybe mods will help with that.

I might get Fallout 3. only because the Broken Steel DLC and mods.

I don't like Diablo and I'm not sure about games like it.

I just had a look at Baldur's gate and I probably won't like it.

Dont like the witcher.

Don't like Deus Ex.

I'm getting Mass Effect 1 and 2.

EDIT: Blame TES (mainly Skyrim) for me being very *a word I can't think of* when it comes to liking games.

I'd recommend Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic 1 & 2 and Witcher 1 & 2. I consider them great games, but you'll have to keep in mind that they are a lot different than TES games, focusing more on story and dialogues rather than vast, open world sandbox.

Is "picky" the word you are looking for? Lots of gamers are like that but lots are also not like that...What I mean is that each gamer is its own :D

If you are unsure about a game, do what I do: Look up a Youtube LP of whatever game you are interested in. Make sure the LP is the start of the game, you don't want spoilers!

I'm going to chime in again on Dragon Age Origins. You can't run around in first person, or have an open game world on the scale of Skyrim, but gameplay and entertainment it beats Skyrim hands down. Every decision you make has an effect on what happens in game. Your choices truly matter in Dragon Age Origins, even more so than the other Bioware franchise (Mass Effect).

Gothic 1-3

Witcher 1-2

Dragon Age Origin

Deux Ex

Batman Arkham City

KOTOR 1-2

The Masquerade Bloodlines

Torchlight 2

Have you played Oblivion or Morrowind before, if you haven't I can almost guarantee you won't like them based on you don't like any games with attributes and RPG mechanics.

May I ask what you like and dislike in RPG?

Could you also give a list of RPG you have played.

What makes you think I don't like games with attributes and RPG mechanics?

I dislike a lot of games. that doesn't mean I dislike RPG mechanics.

Based on what games you have stated you don't like ie. The Witcher, Fallout New Vegas, Deus Ex, I don't think you are even a huge fan of RPG's.

Even Fallout 3 you only ok with, and that is as close as you are going to get to a game like Skyrim.

So I ask again, can you give a list of RPG's you have played and what characteristics do you like in RPG's?

He likes bad storytelling and poor combat, hence he likes Skyrim heueheu.

Jokes asides, since you seem to like fast paced action with RPG elements more, I'd recommend Mount and Blade. Lots of action and role-playing possibility there although you won't get any story, but judging by the games you've rejected, story isn't a huge issue for you.

I'm crap at explaining things and I don't want to type a massive list.

If you really want to know then here is a short version:

I like RPGs.

I like Games with RPG mechanics.

I like games that last more than 20 hours.

I dislike a lot of games because I don't find them interesting or enjoyable. With or without RPG mechanics.

I am not a COD fan if thats what you think. I HATE cod.
