games that actually live up to the nostalgia

Post » Mon May 05, 2014 7:39 am

So, we all at times put on our Nostalgia Glasses, and because they are so old and dusty they sometimes prevent us from accurately seeing the truth..

as a result, looking back we remember a game to be far better than it actually was..

Don't deny it, we all do it

But, what are some games you have gone back to play after several years, and realized "wow, you know what? this is actually even more enjoyable than I rememb-- darn, i died.."

What are some games you have replayed, that you found totally lived up to the Nostalgia?

I gotta go with Skies of Arcadia, doing another playthrough atm and even after all these years, it is still the Pinnacle of what a JRPG should be.. Great Story with plot twists that will make your head spin, an amazing world for the setting, interesting unique Characters that evolve and mature as the story progresses, challenging bosses, and some of the best turn based Combat I have seen (especially in ship battles)..

Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask. I always love them even after I've glorified them inside my head.

The vast majority of them, infact, the only game I can think of at the moment that did not live up to the nostalgia is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamite_D%C3%BCx.

I remembered Hitman: Silent Assassin being my favourite of the series, but when I replayed it, it didn't feel as good as I remembered it to be.

Of the others that also "failed" my expectations: New Vegas, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

Of those that passed were Morrowind, Oblivion, Deus Ex (1), Dishonoured, KotOR 1 and 2

Fallout, Stronghold Crusader, and System Shock 2. Playing these games again rekindled my love I had at first sight, especially in System Shock 2's case. Made me feel right at home after playing the Bioshock games.

Metroid Prime, the only difference is, i hated the game and it was "impossible" at one time, i returned to it recently and fell in love, but it is easier than i remember...

Shop in my town sold only good games :)

From those that didn't live up to nostalgia - Final Fantasy VIII. I liked it so much in the first place probably because Rinoa reminded me a girl I really liked IRL.
