Games That Developers Owe Everyone An Apology For.........

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:47 am

what games do you think warrant a public apology to the entire population of the earth because of the pain and misery they have inflicted on a global level? first ones that immediately popped into my mind in no particular order.......

rogue warrior

fable 3

deus ex 2

force unleashed

AvP......the new one released last year.

shadowrun........the MP shooter released a few years back......NOT the awesome game on the sega genesis.

two worlds 1

gothic 4

im sure there are worse ones but i can only comment on the ones i have played myself.

Personally I'd say they owe us nothing, but that's just my opinion.

Like I said before, if I was Bethesda, I'd never produce another Elder Scrolls game ever again for the crap everyone gave them for Oblivion.

if you think it gets heated on these forums..........you should check out the deus ex forums. the shadowrun forums were like a nuclear bomb when details of that game were being released. you could almost hear aneurisms occurring in some of the people....including me on a couple of occasions. all in all i would say the criticism is fairly contained here, but thats most likely cause of the moderators which seem more prevalent in these forums compared to other forums ive been on.

@Nami88 i actually got that game because i saw so many youtube videos of how awful it was. needless to say i wasnt disappointed.

It is more in check here, but the comments are more snide. Almost like people here are ninja-haters of Oblivion.

Fable 3, but the apology should go to the world designers. They actually did a pretty good job with that, but everything was egregious.

I don't think they own us, but I spent more time saving and loading than playing New Vegas. (and after waiting for every FF game ever, FFXIII was...)

Money. Who cares if some people complain? The vast majority won't, and that's what matters.

And getting back to Deus Ex 2, and for that matter, Thief: Deadly Shadows, both of which were atrocities compared to their forefathers, and both are hopefully being resurrected in Montreal... The heat that Eidos would get for messing those up would far exceed, I would imagine, any uproar from TES community over Skyrim. But that's just my perception.

As for awful games, there are plenty of games out there that I don't play, that I would play Deus Ex 2 instead of.

If you don't like a game, don't buy it. Everyone has their own opinions about all sorts of things, so just cause you didn't think a game was all that great doesn't mean everybody else hates it.

I loved Thief: DS. How does it deviate from the others besides being more linear and not having a headache inducing GUI?

Morrowind came out my junior year of college. I went from a 4.0 to a 3.55 for graduation.

Bethesda should apologize to me. :stare:

Command and Conquer 4...

Also that new atrocity the AvP from last year or whatever. Oh my god, what a total let down. One of the most over hyped piles of crap ever.

EA should apologize for Ultima 8.

Square Enix should apologize for every Final Fantasy game after VI. Not only for being terrible, but for creating an army of annoying fans.

Usually the publishers are more at fault than the developers. One can assume that developers have some passion for their work and want to create a good experience, even if it takes time. Publishers are all about the money, and will push the developers under their control to release a game within a short time frame.

Kane & Lynch: Dog Days.

Also: Modern Warfare 2 for not having bot support. They had bot matches 10 years ago, is it that difficult to implement? No, they just want people to play online so more people will buy the game.

I've been thinking about games after postng in the other thread about our gaming history. I owned a 3DO and to my mind there was maybe one or two good games for it, Space Hulk, Wing Commander III, and uh... D? Maybe. Because there was nothing else like it at the time. But everything else on it was Digital Pictures crap, like Psychic Detective, ha, "Pychic pizza! We know when you're hungry!" Or Snowjob!I I remember for the longest time I had one game for it. Because they were so expensive. That game was Hell! Some good voice acting but really I had no real clue what was going on with it. Then when the console started to die I was picking games up left right for next to nothing, had thirty or so games, and still, only a few were worth playing. I mean I remember a zombie shooter that, man it was bad... basically photos of zombies bounding at the screen. Complete the game and get a video of a chick in a bikini riding in the back of your speed boat. The 3DO did have the best Need for Speed ever though, up until Most Wanted was released.

Actually EA should apologise for the Need for Speed franchise. I mean, Hot Pursuit was basically going back to the Road & Track roots of the first game, but it svcked eggs. Seriously, the Need for Speed franchise for me goes Need for Speed: Road & Track.... [blank, repressed memories] ... Need for Speed: Most Wanted... [blank] ... waiting for a Most Wanted/Road & Track remake done right.

Nintendo should apologise for the current stream of garbage featuring Mario, Wario and every other character they're slowly killing off by making them appear in half-assed sports games, racing games, and cheap party non-games.

Black Hole Entertainment should apologise for Warhammer: Mark of Chaos and its expansion Battle March. I don't know how you mess up a great setting like Warhammer in a RTS game... but they managed it. Loading screens so long you can find time to consummate a child, sit through a nine-month pregnancy, and have a child named Sigmar before the map appears. Cyanide should apologise for Blood Bowl, because "Live the game in real-time" turned out to be a joke. This game would have done really well as a Madden/Quarterback Club type epic. Instead its a turn-based lengthy boardgame for PC with a real-time feature that knackers all the rules and is easier than stealing sweets from dead children. If gamers wanted boardgames they'd go buy boardgames.

JoWood Productions should probably just apologise for existing. Etherlords? Chaser? All right I quite liked Chaser. But just because I quite liked it doesn't mean it didn't svck.

EA should apologise for Godfather II, and... so many other things. Like being Satan's corporation on Earth.

I agree the last AvP was a pile of steaming crud. Easiest game ever maybe? A bad console port to PC. Harder on console purely because the controls blow and are slow, easy on PC purely because the enemies are made to be shot by a player using slow and bad console controls. lol

Uhm, Condemned 2 svcked...

... I'm trying to think of the worst game I've ever played. I think there's two: Iron & Blood: Warriors of Ravenloft, and Chronicles of the Sword on Playstation. They svcked because I'm the type of player who plays games to completion, no matter how much they blow. I wanted to like Iron & Blood, I like Ravenloft. lol The game svcked. Most recent svck job...

... I'd say Two Worlds. I'm with the OP. I played to completion on 360, but meh, it svcked. lol

While I don't have it, Bethesda should be sorry for the PS 3 version of Oblivion. Not fixing the Vampire bug is pretty shamefull for a company like Bethesda. Who do they think they are? Activision or Atari? Shamefull, really shamefull.

FFXIII is not as bad as people make it out to be

FFX on the other hand is about as bad as they make it out to be

FFXII just wasn't memorable for me. The plot seemed weak and the character motivation just didn't seem like it was there at all.

Not the game in general, but Square should apologize for Chocobo racing in Final Fantasy X. Why are those birds so angry at Chocobo riders?

No Caladbolg for me I suppose. :meh:
