Games Where Decisions Effect Outcomes

Action conscious video games were once a new innovative feature where your character's choices, actions or decisions would effect certain aspects of the game, including the ending in some cases. People looked at the feature as almost revolutionary.

I don't know where anyone else stands on this particular matter, but for me, I'm not a big fan of it. I always feel like I may have made the wrong choice or did the wrong action resulting in me missing out on certain things in the game, and possibly even great things. I'm not big on replaying entire games so this feature is more of a nuisance than anything. After I chose my option, during the whole mission, quest, etc I feel like maybe I didn't choose the right one. Small decisions with very little consequence don't bother me much, but larger ones really do and I often get the feeling I didn't do something right.

This feature has become very popular with games and I'm basically wondering how you all feel about games where your decisions effect either the overall outcome of a game or just certain things.

It depends on the game, in some games I feel like my actions should matter more, in others I really don't care.

And in a way isn't the feeling that you may have made the wrong choise part of life, and life and the feeling of it has been the goal for many video games. And if the game gets me invested enough that I really care about every decision then I would say it's done it's job.

It also helps replayability, if the differences are only slight, I don't really care for replaying the game, unless I becom achievement hungry.

I'm not really a big fan of it because I like to play games to wind down after a stressful day at work, not to have moral decisions.

I love it, and feel that branching storylines is really the way to go for games. I don't care about missing out things, I'm just very pleased the game give me a lot of options and tell me a very unique story depending on the choices I made. My story.

That said, I do enjoy good linear game experiences too.
