Games Won't Save

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 12:23 pm

Exactly as the title states, my PC (running on Windows 10) decided this morning that the past 2+ plus hours of work was not worth it and decided not to save any sort of data or overwrite/make new save files anymore.

Anybody have any ideas that could help?

Windows 10 here as well. Game won't save. Also worth noting, no fallout 4 folder was created in my games and I had to manually create an .ini file to get full screen. So utterly pissed, I can't play.

Holy shi- So that's why my screen wouldn't size up. I spent like an hour and some change trying to figure out wth was going on and I got a random update from Steam that fixed it. By then I had tried compatibility mode, turning off read-only, turned it back on, and gave every account on my PC full access just to see what would happen.

Is your game saving yet? I literally can't save and no saves are being made. Something is haywire with windows 10 and this game. The normal game folder under documents and my games isn't even created like with all the other Bethesda games.

A day later and I still can't save my game at all. For some reason no Fallout 4 folder was made under my documents and my games with no .ini file. I manually made one and was able to get full screen finally. Still I cant save my game, so essentially I can't play it. Fix it ASAP. I'm very angry buying the pip boy edition and not being able to play the game.

Have you tried: 'verify the local game cache'. In the Steam Library, right-click on the game, and select Properties. Go the Local files tab and click the: 'verify the local game cache' button.

Check if your documents folder is set to read only, and run the game as an administrator.

Already did both. I've been playing PC Bethesda games and Steam for a decade so I know what I'm doing. Thanks guys though.

Try deleting the Whole Documents\My Games directory (back up data first), let the game recreate it.

That's the problem. It doesn't even create the folder or create save files.

Same here on Windows 10. It's also worth noting the game is not creating the Fallout 4 folder under My Games under My documents which normally includes the Saves folder and .ini files. So graphics settings also aren't getting saved. I'm so friggin pissed. I want to play the game I spent $120 on. Id love if Bethesda could send us a free console copy to play in the mean time.

Yeah I know, it's just that I know if I had the console copy, I'd be playing right now. Tired of PC games getting the short end of the stick. I just got the PC copy for modding. I have a PS4 and Xbox One as well.

Nope, when I left for work I had restarted my computer, gotten some updates, and when I went to try again but the game still wouldn't save. What bothers me is that it WAS working, it just stopped today and idky

This is sounding like a glitched install and the installer script misfired. You can check in your Fallout 4 game directory (the one with the game's executable) and see if there is a installscript.vdf file present. It's just a text file, so you can open it with something like Notepad or Notepad++. It should contain a registry write telling Windows where the game is installed, and instructions to create the game's installation folder and the \My Games\Fallout 4 folder. It also has a hugely long string of characters related to an installer script, but I have not idea what its purpose is. If the file isn't there or doesn't include those instructions, you're likely reduced to uninstalling what you have, redownloading, and reinstalling.

It shouldn't be. A square inside the box, doesn't mean read-only. A folder cannot be read-only anyway. Its just toggle to make everything inside the folder read-only or not.
