Games you played in your childhood

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 7:57 am

I just watched a music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBVwle27OxQ&feature=BFa&list=PLB1DA969E8C03AD7B&lf=plpp_video of one of my favourite game series: (Heroes of) Might and Magic.
And I noticed something. I actually "played" (or maybe I just watched my mother playing it) the first Heroes game.

I remember some of the units and the town design.
The funny thing is that I have barely any memory left of these days.

Another game which I played when I was young was Incoming.
I just recently found out it's name.

Did you experience something like that?

Edit:
Here's an actual list of some games I played when I was young:
Dungeon Keeper 2
Turok 1 and 2: Seeds of Evil
Incoming
Various Pokemon Editions for Game Boy Color
Heroes of Might and Magic 1 and 3 (maybe 2 too)
Might and Magic 6-9
"Die Zifferlinge"
Kings Quest 8
Other games for Game Boy
Age of Empires 2
Morrowind ( I only played the original and never played the addons)
Warcraft 1 and 2
Call of Duty 1
Some game where you can ride on an icedragon, maybe it was Kings Quest
Die Siedler / The Settlers
Popolous
And of course Tomb Raider!
I played a Herkules game too and some spacebattle games (maybe wing commander?)

POKEMON

- As a child I watched my dad in his gaming days play all sorts (over 200 PS1 games and 100 PS2 :bonk: ) I can remember some like Resident Evil, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhumed_%28video_game%29, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Hard_Trilogy, Tomb Raider, Space Invaders, Defender, Fade to Black, Dino Crisis and many more but I can't remember.

-- Sonic 1, 2 and Knuckles, Ecoo the Dolphin, Batman Forever and Road rash for the Sega Mega Drive
-- Pokemon Stadium 1, WWE Smackdown, South Park Quiz show, Pokemon snap, some others for the N64

Doom II and Commander Keen stand out the most in my childhood. Excellent stuff, and I still play the first game on a regular basis. But I played literally dozens of games as a kid.

I played one of the old Kings Quest games. I think VI, Heir Today Gone Tomorrow. Never beat it because there was a DRM puzzle halfway through that had the answer in the manual, and we didn't have the manual.

EVERYBODY played Incoming though. It came free with some video card line I think.

That too. Yeah, I remember trying to catch that freaking sniebel.

I played Kings Quest too. The beginning was kinda scary (for me as a kid).
But I think Incoming was still a good game, but I never really had a clue what I was doing.

I remember trying to catch Kangaskhan and Chansey in the Safari Park with only rocks, bait and crap Safari balls. Anti-climix when it worked though.

I never had a console or hand-held device back then, just the PC and iMac -

Lego Island 2
Star Wars Episode I Racer (still the best racing game I ever played - the damage system, the tracks, the upgrading - all superbly done)
Myst (still the best all around game I ever played  )
Power Pete/Mighty Mike (same game, but there was a windows version and a mac version, I believe. Someone had to change the name when they bought the rights to sell it, or something)

Edit - Oh, and Hype, the Playmobil game about a time traveling knight.

I'm pretty sure it was the Voodoo PCI graphics line that game came with... I still have my OEM copy to hand somewhere. And to the OP: I find myself rediscovering old game I have played a lot. Admittedly 99% of the games I played in my earlier childhood were demos from magazines, but I was easily amused. :D

Great Commodore Amiga games I remember fondly: Superfrog, Soccer Kid, Cybernetix, The Lion King, Rollerpede, Worms, Putty Squad, Theme Park, Shadow of the Beast, Body Blows, Bob's Bad Day, Cannon Fodder, Drip, Chuck Rock, et al.

PC (Windows) games that I played extensively: Age of Empires, Command and Conquer, Tomb Raider, Quake (at the age of seven. Oh dear!), SimCity, SimCopter, Microsoft Football (Soccer), Monster Truck Madness, Worms 2, Gruntz, and Unreal. (That takes me to when I was about 10-12 years old, at least).

Oh Lord, these two. I played them as well. Can't believe I forgot about them!

That also reminds me of:

Freddie Fish
Pajama Sam
Spy Fox
and that one with the purple car.

Spy Fox was my favorite. :D

Monopoly, Payday, checkers, Mousetrap, Family Feud...
Eventually Atari was created and Pac Man, Frogger, Galaga and Dig Dug were added to the mix.

Yeah this question will definitely age us...

Myst
King's Quest ( Do you mean the part of the game in Heir Today when you're climbing the rock face and have to put in answers from the booklet, Steampunk? lol Because I remember that! I had to call a friend because I lost my book.)
Dagger of Amon Ra
Original Mario and Zelda
Excitebike (we played the CRAP out of that game)
There were more on the NES but those were the few we played the most.

We didn't really play videogames much back then though.
