gamesas Forum Issues

Post » Wed Dec 01, 2010 8:35 pm

Post all your new forum board bugs and issues here so that Crytek can find a single thread and get these problems fixed as soon as possible.

I have a couple bugs and complaints, hopefully others put in some feedback also:

[Unresolved] The email notification does not work. Checked user CP and have all notifications enabled (except pop up on new private message). The threads subscribed to do not send an email when a new reply is added.

[Unresolved] Subjects/date information being doubled up in each post.

Suggested Improvements for the future:

[TBA] Add an image resizing script.

[TBA] High contrast, black and white color palette is difficult to read for extended periods of time. - Will advise on the availability of color code buttons. Manual BBcode is currently available.

[TBA] Emoticons. Again, this allows the forum boards to be a little bit more friendly feeling. :)

Keep up the great work Crytek!

Suggested Improvements for the future:

1. Time localization. Currently the time is displayed at CET +1 universally instead of our local times.

2. Signatures and Avatars. Allow some customization to our profiles so that the forum boards are a little bit more personalized.

3. Emoticons. Again, this allows the forum boards to be a little bit more friendly feeling. :)

4. Gaming platforms. Letting us choose which platforms we play will help prevent Crytek from sending out emails to members that do not own the platform being tested. This was a big complaint from the recent test emails.

Keep up the great work Crytek!
Number 4 reminds me of one of my post I while back.

I think most of the stuff is covered in there, with a few exceptions:

I'd like to see a fast reply button below, allowing us to enter in our responses quicker, without clicking on the "Post Reply" button. That would really help us alot.

Also, I was wondering, is this necessary:
http://oi51.tinypic.com/2n6cgfm.jpg

It shows the same information, in different places.

Long loading time has been fixed, other issues are still problems.

Keep up the great work Crytek!

Use [list] plox talon.

Edit: Page count display for large topics is broken, because double-digit numbers aren't centered in the red hexagon. This would either need some horrible hacky workaround to space out double-digit numbers differently, or else the hexagons could just be binned altogether.

I have updated the OP to include new reports and suggestions, and organized it a bit at Darklite's request. :)

Keep the feedback coming!

AJAX quick reply would be good, they have that over at SPUF.

Also, regarding the post ordering in threads, it looks like the Threaded forum options are enabled and the theme doesn't support displaying threaded posts, which is why it's putting quotes next to the quoted post.

Nice thread guys, very useful indeed.

Most of the stuff you have listed is already being addressed, I'll try to go through each one from the OP just go give you a clearer picture. Please note these will all be resolved as soon as possible, the development of this site and the forums are a high priority for us right now so we don't want to leave anything half done :)

- The quote problem
It's being worked on and shall be changed soon.

- Read topics displayed as unread
It's being worked on and shall be changed soon.

- Page count for large topics broken
This is a new bug for us (nice find) and we'll get it fixed.

Suggested improvements:

- Time zones
Definitely something we can add, however surely the point of the post times is to show the gap between each post, if we have a universal board time that would work just as well? Or are you planning to use this time as a clock also?

- Signatures and avatars
Something we're looking into, we want to add more customization but we're just deciding on the best way to do it, we have a few different ideas and you'll see some changes on this soon.

- Emotions
Smileys would be great to have, there were some design conflictions with the default ones so they need to be changed slightly, we'll try to get these added in soon so people can truly express themselves!

- Gaming Platforms
We'd like to add more customizable profile pages for everyone. Another avenue we are exploring.

- Quick reply
Agreed, a quick reply is awesome, this is likely a feature we'll implement in the near future but i don't guarentee it :)

I'll keep an eye on this thread for any additional feedback and update when we can cross more off the list. Thanks again for taking the time to share this with us!

Can we have this stickied as a central place to report issues?

The the nano hexagons that surround the page numbers take very long to load on mobile devices. I can't access any topic until they get loaded and they take much longer to load than everything else.

For the timezones idea, i was thinking of where everybody can edit the timezone via. their own personal account, and then the entire forum boards timezones are changed to your own personal account time. So like if Cry-Tom posted something at 18:43 CET (+1), and I had my timezone edited to EST (-5), I would see that Cry-Tom had posted at 13:43 according to my timezone. So for each individual user that changed their timezone to their native location, the forum board would edit everybody's post from the current CET (-1) to whatever they chose.

So i choose (-5), and the time of the posts changed from +1 to my timezone -5, and if somebody else chose +2 for their timezone, all of the forum board posts would be localized to their timezone, while i can see all of the posts in my timezones, like that, the timezones would be localized for each individual user.

Is that a bit easier to understand now?

I don't think this site is optimized for mobile phone use. I've viewed the old gamesas site before on a mobile phone and it didn't look so well.

But if you guys do make a mobile/lite version of this site for mobile users, I'd be happily impressed and will be able to view the site wherever I am! :)

Tried with an Ipad and Asus eec touch, the site looks normal and at original resolution.
It just depends on the wifi zone and speed.

I was doing a bit of tinkering in my UCP (click on your name at the top) today and discovered that you can alter the date/time format.

From this:

To this:

By doing this:

3.PNG [ 155.94 KiB | Viewed 125 times ]

If you want to change it back, the default custom entry is "d/m/y"

Talon, as per the above, you should be able to set your timezone in your UCP. All post times/dates should be relative to your timezone. If i make a post at 5pm your time, regardless of what time it is where i am, it should state 5pm.

Suggested Improvements:

Adjust the views number count for all threads. Every time I view a thread, the view hits number rises by +1, every time, which is a misrepresentation of the actually individual views each thread actually receives. I suggest all thread receives +1 view counts per member for one time only to truly represent how many different individuals actually viewed a thread.

Correct, this should be addressed.

This is typical forum behaviour, by default. I don't know that it's something that we'd be able to change easily. I think it's valid to record multiple views from the one person because they are still a person viewing it and seeing new posts.

Does anyone have an image for this? I've been unable to find this issue using chrome, firefox and internet explorer, if this is causing problems from you please post an image and include your O/S, browser, and any other relevant information.

Thanks.

Seems ok here, Win7 x64 & Firefox 3.6.12. I have seen this issue when the new forums first came into effect but haven't seen it for a while now so i imagine it's already been fixed.

Yeah, it's gone here too, they're centered correctly now.

I rarely saw this issue on a Win 7 x64 with an updated Mozilla Firefox or IE 8.
