Gamesave from oblivion, beneficial for Skyrim gamesave?

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 2:23 pm

I wouldn't mind reading a few books in Skyrim that increases intelligence/strength etc that had something to do with my Oblivion's charter's exploits/completed quests.

And if they have an arena in Skyrim, maybe have portrait or statue of my Oblivion character as he was the grand champion of the arena there.

i wouldnt want to get anything from my character in oblivion. its 200 years past. if importing any information from an oblivion save then i would find it fun if it went like this;

going deep in a dungeon you come across a skeleton with a note... "i think i bit off more than i could chew on this one.... signed [enter characters name here]." maybe find his diary with a written exploit of his accomplishments or something.

Why necro this topic? Anyway, I don't want this at all. 200 years in the future, and it is in a different province, I just don't see it being likely that you would see anything about the champion of Cyrodiil except maybe a book about the Oblivion crisis.

I'd be plenty happy with rumors about what happened to the Champion of Cyrodiil after the end of the game, assuming anyone still talks about that 200 years later :P

Barring that, a reference or two in books or something.

Definite NO to having a direct link or to finding the Champion's hoarde or something.

They might talk about it and say "I bet this is going to be like when Mehrunes invaded Tamriel 200 years ago! :ahhh: "

Wouldnt make much sense, there werent really any choices, at least none that you would notice after 200 years.

You will start out as a prisoner in what we can't legally call rags, and you will like it.

I really don't feel the need to tie the two games together in this way.

Neither do I, but I suppose one could mod it in?

Definite NO to having a direct link or to finding the Champion's hoarde or something.

You sound like you have something against character legacies?

Although I play the "same" character throughout Morrowind, Oblivion, and eventually Skyrim, I really wouldn't want any kind of transference or benefit from having played previous games. It works for Mass Effect becuase it's all one story designed as such, but each TES is different, not only in engine and mechanics, but also story. I can create lore centric reasons as to why my hero had to "start again" and that's good enough for me.

i forget wut game it is. but u r rewarded if u have the previous save games... urrrggghhh...it is... dragon ball z. u dont get anything big for it just a few items. Like maybe you should start out with a better weapon at the beginning. you can start with a steel bow insted of rusty iron or something. or maybe ten extra points to put anywhere. it has to be really minor w/e it is.

Things that people liked from other games by other developers are not by definition good for Skyrim.
No please.

I would hate this. It is a cool idea but every game that I have done this with I've had problems.

First. Dragon Age origins. For the expansion pack my characters were naked. 'nough said.

Mass Effect 2: My character imported beautifully but about halfway through the game (level 8) my character was erased or corrupted somehow and I lost all my stats and skills. My companions were all ok, just my character. I lost my custom look for my shepard as well so it was a REAL immersion breaker whenever he talked. Everytime I saw him it reminded me of the issue.
I ended up finding a character editor and tried to make my character similar to what he was (I didn't actually commit his build to memory, why should I have?) but it just wasn't the same.

Diablo II: LoD worked fine so if it works like that then A OK!

All this besides the fact that it takes place 200 years into the future.

In the end, I would like to have a new character to start a new story with. It's a different province in a different time. It's time for a new champion to arise.

Something else just occurred to me- given current game trends, this is unlikely to happen because...

...why let you import freebies from old games when they can do the now-nearly-standard "extra in-game goodies depending on where you order" schtick and get paid for'em?

At most, they should use it to give a name to the Champion of Cyrodiil. At most.

In a gameplay sense... I wouldn't really like this. Well... if there were references to my Champion of Cyrodill... I'd want the mentions to be vague at most :P This is a new world... new character.... new identity to assume.

The one great thing that being able to load characters (and having that benefit you in some way) would be that it'd encourage people to play the old titles before playing Skyrim. If they could give some benefit for your Morrowind Char... and that encouraged people to enjoy the magic that is TES III, then I'd consider that a win in my book.

nope. i was just thinking about this the other day and i realized that i'm not really a fan of how bioware does this kind of stuff in the mass effect and dragon age series. that and the fact that they make special items available if you download the demo, or pre-order the game or some other stupid requirement like signing up for a newsletter. it's all pretty stupid IMO.

We had this issue with NV too. NO! It does not fit into this kind of a game. Mass Effect is about 100x more directed than this game. So, no.

No,Mass effect 2 took this way too far.You have to consider at least 25% of your audience is new or wont have game saves. My Xbox hard drive died and with it about half a gig of oblivion saves and my 2 mass effect one saves. You screw your new audience out of too much when you over use this kind of feature like ME2.

I actually think this feature was necessary in ME2 since it is dealing with events immediately after ME1, not like 200 years after in the case of Skyrim. And you aren't "screwing your new audience" since they can still pick the options in ME2.

I can't see this being in. It wouldn't matter much either, because most quests in OB only had two outcomes: Completed and failed. Still liked OB a lot though.
