As GAME, who own gamestation, are going to be running the same offer. Both stores tailor their prices so they dont out-do each other.
Its part of their christmas sale, enforced by Head office

Not likely, the game is on what is referred to as the stores "hot list". Staff are encouraged to push it on everyone, as well as encourage people with it to trade it in so they have copious amounts of used copies to sell on.

If it was doing badly, GAME and Gamestation will both take a % of the stock, slap a used sticker on them and fill the used shelves with them. Not drop the price of the original game. This price drop was planned from release, if you asked the guys behind the counter they would have told you.

A game thats not even been out a month on your hotlist to be sold at half price is uncharted 3 on that list or the assassins creed revelations?

Most AAA titles are placed on it for the first month of sales.

Skyrim however is a niche game. The market it appeals too drops after the first few weeks, its not as wide scale as other current titles, So off that list some are chosen to lure people into the store by lowering the price during the sales.

Statistically, people will buy 2-3 more games at the same time if they believe they are getting value. If they come in for something particular, they will see this and buy it ontop of their point of visiting, thinking its good value.
