Gamestop's Pre-Order Incentive

Post » Sat Jun 18, 2011 10:23 am

I just read that Gamestop's pre-order incentive for Skyrim is a physical map... but does that mean that if we don't pre-order from gamestop that we don't get a map? Oblivion came with a map... Morrowind came with a map... and you didn't have to pre-order from gamestop (or anywhere else) to get it for either of them! We all deserve an awesome map!

Yeah if that's the case then that's bs. It's kind of become standard for TES games to come with a physical map. It doesn't bug me too much since I preordered from gamestop but that's not fair to everyone else.

I refuse to shop at Gamestop so it looks like I'll be missing out on that map. Also retailer specific preorder bonuses? Shame on you Beth, shame on you. Next thing you know you'll take away the CK and charge us 15 dollars for a mod.

I'm skeptical about that claim, I was at GameStop for Duke Night and they tried to sell me the Five Year Anniversary of Oblivion. THAT came with a cloth map of Cyrodiil and a ten dollar rebate for Skyrim, but they unveiled nothing in terms of free pre-order swag for Skyrim.

I'm sure you can google it. But I read it in the latest gameinformer, issue 219, pg 74.

Also, it says "premium physical map"... maybe that means we all get a map, but gamestop's "premium map" is special somehow (?).

I highly doubt we won't get a map elsewhere.

More likely it's a slightly thicker paper map with a huge "Gamestop" in the corner.

Are you saying your skeptical about me claiming to have read this, or about gamestop's claim to have this incentive?

Also, when you say the 5 year anniversary edition of Oblivion comes with a cloth map, you mean it's not just paper? That's pretty sweet, I didn't realize that.

Gamestop's claim most likely. I got much the same response when I bought Alice Madness Returns on Tuesday, and even made a point of asking if they knew if a preorder bonus for Skyrim existed. As far as the clerk was aware, there wasn't one announced yet.

Has to be cloth or something special. Why the hell would a paper map be a pre-order incentive?

Doesn't really change my mind. Though I also hear that you get double points if you are a card member(I am). I would vastly prefer to get some sort of exlusive pre order items but I'm more concerned with simply paying it off slowly up to it's release date and being able to buy it the day of release than getting some sort of pre order bonus.

The "premium" map isn't laced with arsenic.

Ugh, I'd rather have no map than a map that says gamestop on it. Totally would ruin the map.

It was a joke. Did they also say double power-up points? If so, it's a joke.

What makes you think that? I've never heard of Gamestop telling a joke like that.

Morrowind came with a map? My GOTY edition (PC version) didn't come with one.

If it's a joke, then I don't get it. What's funny about it? Where's the punchline? It also says for Assassin's Creed Revelations you get an extended gameplay mission, a weapons capacity upgrade, and a multiplayer skin... Haha? Yeah... that's hilarious.

Also, what it says is "double power up rewards points", which I believe refers to some sort of redeemable points system that gamestop has. They've given them to me when I've gotten other games from them in the past.
