Gamestopper Bug in Main Quest: Sky Haven Temple

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 10:02 pm

I've cleared sky haven temple before Delphine gave me the quest after saving Esbern. Now after activating the blood seal and opening that big face to get access to the inner temple Delphine and Esbern run back to the beginning of the level right before the point where you have to turn three pillars. They stand there and do nothing instead of coming to the wall and so I can't finish the quest and the game is broken for me.

Does anyone know how to fix this glitch? I can't go any further in the main storyline at the moment and my last save before I cleared sky haven temple is 10h away so I don't want to go back and do all the stuff again!

Thanx in advance and here is a screenshot of the place and bug I mean!

Reinstalling Skyrim and the patch on the PS3 didn't help

From the info on the Wiki it looks like its quite a common bug. Being that its in the main quest im sure it will be addressed sooner rather than later.

I had this, you'll need to load an older save, don't fast travel directly to the temple, fast travel to location nearby & walk/fight your way to the temple entrance, if they run off again, repeat the process.

This is probably the right move. I also have discovered Sky Haven Temple before I was assigned the quest but after I got the quest I fast-travelled from Riverwood to Karthspire Camp and fought my way to the temple through all the Forsworn who were camping there. I never encountered any troubles completing the quest.

I cannot go back! The time it screwed up the quest ist 120 hours away from my current savegame, so I have to wait till it is fixed with a patch!

You probably aren't going to like hearing this but when this bug is patched it most likely will not fix the situation for people who have already run into the problem and then saved their game and kept playing anyway. Most quest bug fixes are going to be preventative in nature so that they prevent the bug from ever coming up in the first place. It's virtually impossible to code something that can dig through millions of unique saved games and rewrite them properly without screwing up other saved stuff.

General rule of gaming you just learned the hard way - if you run into a bug, first thing you do is reload a save from before said bug and try again. If that doesn't work then reload and try to figure a way around the bug. If that still doesn't work then reload the save from before the bug came up and then avoid that part of the game until it's been patched and then try again.

I'd say probably 90% of the quest bugs that have been reported in this game will only be fixed to prevent them from happening initially. There are only some that will be fixable even if they've already been triggered (probably things like already having a quest item in your possession, stuff like that).
