Gaming Desktop for Crysis 2 Advice!

Post » Sun Aug 28, 2011 5:32 pm

Hello,

I am mostly an Xbox player and I want to buy a gaming desktop for Crysis 2 and other games coming out later this year. I thought why not ask you guys as this is the PC forum and probably know your stuff :D

I am thinking about buying the Desktop I am going to post in the link below;

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/hp-touchsmart-610-1030uk-all-in-one-pc-with-23-monitor-10452185-pdt.html

I know that building my PC will be cheaper and I will get better components but although I am a smart guy it all seems very complex and complicated. Also I like to have warranties from buying products from large companies. The main reason however is that I am going back to University in a few weeks and I cannot afford to shell out £1000.00 at once so Curry's has a payment plan which other sites don't in the UK.

Do you think this will be able to play Crysis 2 beautifully and other games like Skyrim, BF3 etc?

Thank you

Kaz

rule of thumb: most prebuilt pc's svck at gaming.

the one you show is not much different. the CPU is a last gen dual-core. AAA titles release this year (including crysis 2) use quad core so the CPU in that all-in-one (please get a real desktop) is already hindered.

second, the HD 5570 is a joke. that card is only good for very light games such as the ones using the aging source engine (released in 2004) with all graphics at minimum.

I suggest you use that 1000 to build a realistic gaming machine with lastest core i5 2500K and at least a GTX 560 Ti or HD 6870 if you want to play games.

!00% agree, if you're serious about getting a decent system with a lot of power than best to build yourself.

I've spent just under a grand on mine so far:

i7 2600k @4.5ghz
Asus p8p67 pro B3 motherboard
Coolermaster Haf 922 Case
4GB G-Skill RipjawX 1600mhz RAM
Corsair TX-750 watt Power supply
Nvidia PNY 580 GTX 1.5GB

Chucked the HDD's and DVD rewriter from my old system (which are due an upgrade) and is not the best system in the world but totally octa-pwns the prebuilt you've posted above, all your paying for with that one is the touch screen.

No, don't even bother with that PC, it's a rip off with a weak graphics card. You could build an extremely good high-end PC for that amount of money.

Use Scan mate for the best prices in the UK http://www.scan.co.uk/

Thanks and others for letting me know, I definitely won't be getting this PC now :)

I have been on the Dell Online Store Builder looking at the Alienware computers (http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=d00asw09&c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&model_id=alienware-aurora-r3&cid=pd_ukdhsalwnar3d00asw09) and have custom built this PC. Do you think this is good enough?

3.4GHz Intel? Core? i7-2600K (8MB Cache) Quad Core Processor with overclocked Turbo Boost to 3.9GHz
English Genuine Windows? 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)
1.5GB NVIDIA? GeForce? GTX 580
6GB 1333MHz (2x2GB + 2x1GB) Dual Channel Memory
500GB - SATA-II, 7,200rpm, 16MB Cache
802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR USB Combo Adapter - EUR
DVD+/-RW (Read/Write) 24x

This will set me back £1463.58. It comes with a bit more but these are the main stats.

I know building a PC is a bit cheaper but I really don't want to learn how to build a pc and I don't have the capital right now to buy all the components etc.

Thanks

Go to scan as wrath above mentioned and configure a prebuild on there, you'll save money compared to dell.

Pre-built systems are generally going to cost more, as well as the fact you'll have to deal with some companies scrimping on important parts like power supplies etc. That's why if you put a system together you'll not only save money but you won't have to deal with hardware failures due to cheap unbranded PSU's or what not because some idiot at a PC store or the place that builds them thought he'd make more money by scrimping on parts and selling it at the same price. That's probably far fetched but it happens, the majority of cheap prebuilt PC's out there these days are scrimped for profit and most of the end consumers aren't getting their monies worth for the price they've paid.

If you are going to buy a pre-built system make sure it's from a trusted seller that deals with PC enthusiasts as their main customers. Places like scan and overclockers.co.uk are probably where I'd first go for a pre-build.

Hey,

I have looked at that scan website and I can get the below for about £130.00 less;

Intel Core i7 2600K 3.4Ghz Quad Core 8Mb Cache Hyperthreading (overclocked to 4.7Ghz)
DDR3: 8Gb (2x4Gb) Corsair Vengeance LP DDR3 1600Mhz
1536MB EVGA GTX 580 SC 797MHz GPU 4050MHz GDDR5
60Gb OCZ Agility 3 SSD Read 525MB s Write 475MB s
1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 7200rpm 32MB Cache

This has more better ram, gb's and Ghz than the Alienware and a little cheaper. It may have other better components than the Alienware, like the motherboard etc but I cannot tell the difference anyway lol

that system is a beast, bro. the i7 2600K is overclocked (compared to stock on the alienware) and @ 4.7 Ghz, you'll easily rank among the fastest CPU in the world :)

that SSD drive is very fast, but be sure to read up on how to properly use an SSD :)

seems like a very beastly computer :) and hey you got it cheaper than the alienware. everyone who build computers know that alienware's are overpriced.
so yea get that. if you want to save a few bucks you can always get the GTX 570 instead. but the 580 is the fastest single GPU card right now.
have fun maxing crysis 2. get back to us with details of your experience.

Since you aren't into the tinkering aspect so much, please also consider the vendor's warranty terms and reputation in your purchase?

You're such a troll these days M4dn3ss, just like i know the rig this guy wants, i know your trouble too, cause i got the same trouble, actually the whole community is suffering, the trouble is the standard MP maps are getting old, we need the two DLCs to be released mainstream, and anyone lookin' for some kind of refund for buying them is a tool.
As always sorry for hijack but it's true, unless the DLCs are released it's gonna sometime get old (talking about MP).
Only hope right now is the surprise that's due from Cervat, maybe more rad C2 content which would be uber but i love my MP and i want it fresh.
