Gaming Let Downs

Post » Wed Jun 30, 2010 12:27 am

Oh, and All Points Bulletin let me down tremendously. I admittedly only played the beta but the finished version was, from what I've read, pretty much the same. It failed to live up to it's immense potential. You know an MMO is bad when you don't even want to play the free beta after a while.

This.

I was really hyped about the game. Then I played the beta...

I will never play that game.

Loved the first Fable, it just wasn't the same.

Far Cry 2 comes to mind and I kind of wanted to play it because I saw all the ads for it along with the video footage. Friend was kind enough to give it to me as a gift since we do exchanges around X-Mas time. Was definitely let down by how repetitive the game was and how weak the story line was all the way to the end.

when I saw the thread name, this is the first game that came to mind. I wanted it so bad, it looked awesome. The open world, the fire, the diseases, but then I got it, sat in a car for 15 minutes, finally started playing, and was really disappointed.

Im pretty sure they are keeping the combat/upgrade system the same. I hate it.

Agreed, its frustrating to build the same gun.

Actually, dev statements a few weeks after release were that they saw that the reduction of RPG elements went too far. So we can hope for the best.

By the same logic, you could say that WarCraft 3 was StarCraft in Azeroth, and generalisations like that are worth garbage.

Let me clear this up a tad, Im a fan of Blizzard games, I enjoyed Starcraft, i enjoyed Warcraft 3 and it expansion, Starcraft 2 however was different, The plot did not have the same originality as the first did, Its plot was very much like Warcraft 3, Hence why i said in space

Yes, and where did that one get its story of a hero from the first faction becoming hero of the second and in the end becoming the Big Bad theirselves come from?
See, these simplifications are what I meant. ^_^

Mercenaries 2. It was going to be so great, but Pandemic didn't have the resources and EA didn't give them the time. It's a real shame, that game could have been the sandbox to end all sandboxes.

FFXIV beta is a huge let down. Granted its a beta, but its still the worst beta for any game i've ever played.

Well, it's still a good game though.

Sly 3 wasn't really as good as the first two. And BioShock 2.

I just had another thought.

Mass Effect: Alright, when I first played it, I played it like an RPG and did all the sidequests and stuff. It was so tedious it reminded me of an infinity engine game (except it didn't because I played Mass Effect before any of them, but it did remind me of boredom). I was very much disappointed. My second playthrough was actually better because I was rushing through the whole game.

It is, but it's nowhere near what it could have been and was shaping up to be. I was on Pandemic's forums for 3 years and over that time I watched the game change and grow and then, all of a sudden, it went downhill. The graphics got worse, the physics were a lower quality, etc. I don't know what happened. One day I was watching a video of some weapons being used and the next night I'm watching a video of an entirely new game. It's sad.

Just remembered; every Spyro game made after Insomniac stopped making them wound up disappointing me. Admittedly, the Spyro games made by insomniac weren't something that someone other than a kid would play, but luckily I was a kid when I played them so it was my kind of game. But after Insomniac sold the license, every new Spyro game, even though I was still a kid, felt very poor in comparison to Insomniac's. It wasn't until I was older that I realized the the reason for the decrease in quality was that a different developer was making them. I didn't pay attention to those things as a kid so I would have never guessed.

I think they sensed that their end was coming, Pandemic just being the pretty unwanted appendix on acquisition of Bioware. :meh:

Battlefront 2-It was fun but it reminds me of MW2 and how they tried to do too much with it.

Bladestorm-From the demo it looked like a solid Dynasty Warriors like game.Once I played the full game I realized how repetitive it was.

Lord Of the Ring Conquest-Might be one of the worst games I have ever played. It felt nothing like the battlefront games and the whole everyone knows magic thing pissed me off.

ya then we saw naked raiden and the half part was reduced to none.

Another game I want to mention is the Counter-Strike: Source update/beta thing. Was really really hoping this would bring me back, but it has just caused me to be turned away from it. Said it in another post i'm sick of being 2 feet away from my target crouching firing a pistol having it land no where while a person does the bunny hopping thing and nails me from like 10 to 15 yards away with a headshot via the .45 starter pistol. Game just went down hill for me when I was like 2 inches away from someone firing the aug straight at their head capped of 10 rounds did 0 damage. They fired 1 shot from the ak hitting me in the head killing me instantly even with full kevlar + helmet.

Oblivion for me. I don't know why but straight off the bat I felt so lost and overwhelmed with everything, which was weird cuz I never felt that way about a video game. I'm guna give it another chance as soon as I can but I get why people think its so great.

Spore
I spent 4 years looking at an edgy startegy game. 2 months before release they show this entire new theme and logo and game style.
I cried myself to sleep for a year.
I checked blogs before was out, constantly, every day, every hour, tons and tons of blogs.

Rumour has it that he didn't want to do that, and that's why he left the now completely EA-controlled Maxis behind. :sadvaultboy:

Farcry 2
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
Fallout 3
Oblivion
CoD4: MW
Mass Effect 2

Woah dude, I hope that was a joke!

For me I would probably say Halo Wars. I looked forward to that game so much. I downloaded the Demo on Xbox Live when it came out, and thought "this demo must be like 1/4th of all that you can do in the full game!".. It was practically the full game, just with 2 of the "heroes" if you would call them that. And in general, the game is very spammy. <-- imo.
Other than that... Prototype! I thought it would be so much more! It was a decent game, but at the same time it wasn't really what I hoped for.
