PC Gaming is OFFICIALLY dead

Post » Wed Jan 19, 2011 1:43 pm

My Pc is four years old and iam still able to play most games at a good setting.
As long as there is no new console generation comin out, every new pc over 800€ is wasted money.
There is nearly no invention in graphics or physics over the last 3 years. Just look at Crysis still beeing among the 5 topgames graphic/physicwise and its nearly four years old.
The pc just lost the game selling war against consoles, only rts and mmorpg are still profitable for the pc and therefore a high-end pc to play games with graphics a 4 year old pc could handle are such a waste of money.

Oh, go cry some more. If PC gaming was dead, they wouldn't be making Skyrim for it. Now stop whining because console kiddies aren't being actively [censored] over.

huge difference between PC gaming and Console gaming
PC---->modabble
console---->not legally modabble

as long as that stay true (which it probably will) PC gaming will never be dead, and you know PC's can actually handle a lot more than consoles, if you invest enough

Oh, what a relief. I can finally toss out this hapless clunker of a PC. You do speak for the entire gaming industry, right? On second thought, where are your credentials, since you're speaking in an official manner?

If you think about it, the Console kids are the ones being screwed over...

With the good ol' Comp you can add advanced graphic options, because the computers do advance and can use better tech, they are still using a console made during OB's time.

So, basically, a console kid might have to deal with poorer graphics and performance with his xbox, while us PC gamers will laugh at them with our shining towers of advancement.

Blah blah blah. People have been saying this for years, and there are no signs that this is actually happening.

Graphical innovation is not going to stop, and even if it does slow down, who cares? Why would PC Gaming die just because graphics don't get significantly better every year?

If you think about it, the Console kids are the ones being screwed over...

I see it as 'you get what you pay for'.

This is slightly stupid, PC gaming is not dead, it is merely delayed. Skyrim for PC we all know will be the superior version as well as the one to be moddable. Console gaming at the moment is causing PC games to lack their overall shine due to the components in the consoles.

This is ridiculous, I play on 360, but I also buy games for the pc, mainly from GOG.com. Of course it isn't dead.

It's not dead...

It's just being totally controlled and held back by the consoles. Consoles get the best sales and so the developers make their games/graphics/physics console friendly. It's just being held back.

they are just holding back technology until it becomes economical to actually sell it.

don't worry, if every technology was available to the masses we would be living in a star trek like world now.

people who have all the basics of their lives provided will NOT:

1- Follow religious clergies.
2- Listen to politicians that have as much brain cells as a virus.
3- make pointless wars.
4- Die for invisible ideologies and figures who have as much value as sand on a beach.

so keep people seeking basics and worthless possessions (overpriced cars, fashion, colored rocks (jewels LOL)), and you can control them like sheep, give them ALL knowledge/technology and they all become equal.

fuel from water, the new synthetic cells, fusion, all are technologies that are within our grasp but alas they tell us they are centuries away, the human race truly never stops amazing me (in a bad way)

Metro 2033 will bring most PCs to their knees and supports DX11 in spite of also being Xbox 360 (which doesn't look as good as the PC version).

My Pc is four years old and iam still able to play most games at a good setting.

Okay, not seeing how this is killing PC gaming.

As long as there is no new console generation comin out, every new pc over 800€ is wasted money.

Not actually true... but that aside, still not seeing how PC hardware being wasted money would mean anything for PC gaming.

There is nearly no invention in graphics or physics over the last 3 years. Just look at Crysis still beeing among the 5 topgames graphic/physicwise and its nearly four years old.

No innovation in physics is... pretty flatly wrong. No innovation in graphics maybe (on a purely "nothing looks as nice as Crysis" basis and ignoring things like hardware tessellation), but not seeing how graphics and physics not innovating has anything to do with the entirety of PC gaming being officially dead.

The pc just lost the game selling war against consoles, only rts and mmorpg are still profitable for the pc

Once again completely incorrect, but you've got a bit of a running start here.

and therefore a high-end pc to play games with graphics a 4 year old pc could handle are such a waste of money.

So from what I can understand... you're ranting because modern PC games are usually well-optimized enough to run with decent settings on a broad range of hardware. And this is not helping or improving PC gaming but is in fact killing it?

I wasn't aware that the state of PC gaming was reliant on technological advancements. I guess console gaming is dead too. I mean, they've been playing games on the same hardware for over 5 years now. :whistling:

Games are still being released on PC, playable at higher resolutions, framerates and with better graphics settings thanks to more and more powerful hardware. PC gaming is doing just fine.

Its the PCs fault for being so easy to access. You can just download anything you want for free. Why would anyone support it? Sure there are still some greats games that console users will never get such as Minecraft & WoW. But for the most case PC gaming is going to get worse.

Because it's a gigantic market where individual games can and regularly do sell over a million units. The fact that piracy happens doesn't really change the fact that PC games still sell.

What would I rather have? My Xbox version of Oblivion with tiny draw distance, broken leveling and dumbed down gameplay, or would I rather have my PC version with twice the draw distance, better graphics, mods that let me tailor almost everything in the game to my liking.

It's a no brainer really.

PC gaming is going nowhere, if anything, the consoles makers are trying as hard as they can to make them more and more like PCs anyway.

I would of given up on Oblivion and Morrowind years ago if it weren't for the CS.

This is not and has never been true. Console makers are aiming to make consoles home entertainment hubs, the sort of thing you can't live without having attached to your home theater. PCs are far more general purpose than that, and console makers aren't interested in even trying for a chunk of that pie.
